What Gear Ratio Do You Have ? / Bose=console ?

Trying to make the right decision and Im not particular about getting the Silvy or the Sierra , BUT I did find a truck I like that has the Z71 , tailer tow , Bose , ect ... it's a GMC , All-Terrain version crew cab 4x4 . The only thing I don't like is the 3.08 gears ratio makes me a bit concerned. I don't pull a lot but do plan on upsizing my tires to 33's with a leveling kit.

If it had 3.42 gears I would have pulled the trigger , but thats holding me back .

How many of you have the Bose sound ?? I know I have to get the console with it , but honestly don't mind the other seating option with the flip down center storage and the underneath seat storage , but they tell me no Bose with that system. I've listened to both radios and although the Bose is not a stellar performance system I did notice a clearer quality and volume . Do you guys think the Bose is worth it ?? I also found a Silvy with the seating (no console ) and it's nice . It has 3.42's , but no Bose . So I'm a little undecided .

Help this old guy out with you view points please .

Can always put an aftermarket headunit in and speakers and get way way better sound than a Bose. That Silverado has the gears you want and seating you like just not the Bose so why not give that one a second look. Just my .02.

Maybe worth your time to take both out for a good test drive get comfortable and go from there.

I have 3.73's, obviously no Bose and buckets with console( which I prefer)

what year? new trucks? I have a 5.3 with the 6 speed transmission, totally different animal than the 4 speed.

I have 3.42 gears and I think they are ideal. When it comes to gears in the newer 6 speeds you really have to take them for a ride to get a feel for them.

Personally I'm a big fan of the bose system. VERY hard to beat for a stock unit. And your right, I personally wouldn't settle for 3.08 gears either. JMO

3.42s in mine but I have a 4spd. My wifes Tahoe has 3.42s and a 6spd. I like it a little better, but it wont make up for the lack of torque in a set of 3.08 gears. Besides, Ive had a truck with the Bose system in it and I hated it. It wasnt any better than a regular stereo, and it was a lot more complicated and expesive to upgrade or replace with aftermarket stuff.

If it were me, Ide go with the one that has 3.42s and NO Bose.

Go with 6 speed for sure, take it over any other option.

As for the sound, you can get aftermarket amps, speakers, and converters and retain the stock head unit. It will appear completely stock, and as such, not worth stealing.

Do not get taken by the removable faceplate head units. Once you take the faceplate off, you have just told thieves that you probably have the good stuff as well, amps. And amps are universal, they work with most anything, and virtually all have no antitheft features.

I test-drove a 5.3 6sp with 3.08s and another with 3.42s a couple months ago when I was truck shopping. The one with 3.08 was really weak in comparison, even in comparison with my old '99 5.3 4sp 3.73 and less horsepower. Go for the 3.42!

`I do like the bose system, but I wouldn't let that hold me back. You can put in a system yourself that could sound even better. Just get the good stuff. I wouldn't want 3.08 though. Either 3.42 or 3.73 be fine.

Only way to get the 3.73's is with the max trailer package which also comes with the 6.2L

I have everything you mentioned in the first vehicle with the Bose and the 3.08's. I really like the Bose system for a factory system. As for the 3.08's, I really wish I would have gotten something more. I'm already pricing out a gear swap for when I upgrade tires to a 33". But overall, if you don't tow much and don't want to upgrade the tires, its not a bad truck. It does everything I need it to do for now.

My friend at the dealer did a locate and found me 3 trucks (GMC's) with All Terrain pkg and 3,42's and Bose system . It has Z71 4x4 , 5.3L , cloth seats , center console , trailer tow pkg , all kinds of other stuff. Black with black int. They are SLE models . I do plan on some light towing/hauling , but the trucks have 18" wheels on them and I would like to put a leveling kit on with 33's . The stock tire size is 265/65/18 so I will have to figure out a tire size in a 18" and 33" tall. IN A MEATY all terrain. BFG would be nice .

1 of them even has a power sliding rear window which is rare around here and have never seen that before , but it has no rear defroster in it so I'm undecided about that one , but thats minor .

So Im set and just have to pick the one I want and they'll do a dealer trade . So stay tuned ...... if you guys think of anything else , let me know in the next day or so . I thank you all for your patience and help .
