2004 Sierra Electrical Issue

Ive got a 2004 Sierra 1500 LS. Starting about a month ago every once in a while when i turned on the truck it would reset the trip milage by it self. A little bit of an annoyance but i just dealt with it. About i week ago it turned everything to french (i think). Everything on the stereo such as song is in a foreign language. Same with milage, trip milage, total hours, buckle seatbelt etc.

Another probably unrelated issue is the AC/Heat controls only work on setting 5. 1-4 are the same as off. And every once in a while ill be driving and the drivers side (not the passenger) turns from AC or cool air to heat even though the switch set to cold air. If i restart the truck it fixes itself. Thanks for any help.

So, on the French thing, even your radio switches over to playing the music in French? Not sure what to tell you there because I see no way of that being possible.

Does the truck have a driver information center and steering wheel controls?

The hvac issue is more than likely a hvac control head issue.

No the music is still in english but where it would usually say "track" if you are playing a cd it says "piste". It doesnt have steering wheel controls, but the message center where it says things like "hour meter" "odometer" "trip milage" "buckle seatbelt" is all in french. Also the button you would hit to switch between trip milage, hour meter, and odometer has recently stopped working. Sometimes i will turn on the truck and everything will be back in english, but when i turn it off and back on again its back to french.

Try doing this first,

1. Turn ignition on.

2. Use the trip rest stem to display the Odometer on the DIC.

3. With the Odometer displayed press and hold down the trip reset stem, after 3-5 seconds the DIC will begin to scroll thru the 3 difference languages.

4. Continue to hold down the trip reset stem until the desired language is displayed then release the trip reset stem.

The trip reset stem only works sometimes. Other times its just stuck on whatever it happens to be on. Lately i haven't been able to move from the hour meter setting and its stuck in french.

It randomly re-sets the trip meter too.
