Opinions Am I Out Of Line With The Dealer

so I got a coupon from Chevrolet (AMI Marketing) congratulating me on my 2011 Silverado with a 19.99 Oil change. we all know the 11's take Dexos. It was "Signed" by the Gm of my dealership. and keep in mind it says "2011 Silverado on it". the dealer won't honor it. they say the dexos is too expensive to honor it. the advisor was very rude about it in fact. I am furious. Why was I sent it then?

I just bought a new malibu from the same dealer 3 weeks ago as well. Why would they piss a customer off over $15. Honestly I would have just let it go if the service guy wasn't so rude about it.

Sales man can't do anything and the GM was gone. I requested a meeting witht he GM over this and the other two times the service department treated me poorly (scratched my truck, talked down to me over a radio swap that this forum confirmed would work and another dealer programmed with ease)

all i want is for them to honor the coupon next oil change AND honor one if I get it for the Malibu.

or am I just being a big baby? lol thoughts? thanks

I would find another dealer and let that GM know exactly why he has lost your business. There is no excuse for all the incidences you have described. You spent a ton of money there and they scratch your truck and treat you like shit? F-EM!

Does it have a dexos disclaimer on it. If not then someone made a booboo. I would say guys look I've bought a couple of vehicles from you and I think that's worth something. Ask them to take the 15.00 bucks off price of the dexos service. 15.00 bucks off is 15.00 bucks off right? Oh I would still talk to the GM bad the attitudes

Find another dealer. Sounds like the one you deal with now only cares the day you are buying a car......Make sure you give them negative remarks on the survey you should be getting about your new vehicle purchase from GM.

Personally if they cant honor their word how do you figure they would do an oil change right? After your issues I wouldnt let them touch my truck with a 10 foot pole.

Make sure to still speak with the GM and tell him how his service dept is ruining his dealership. This is why most start to fail.

Aren't most oils dexos certified? I know there have been threads about which ones are and it was a lengthy list. I only use mobil 1 or pennzoil platinum and know both are dexos. Wonder what brand/type that dealer uses.

If you haven't already received your purchase survey(s) from GM, a couple of bad surveys I would think would hurt the dealership more than

a dexos oil change would cost them. Everyone else is right, if you dropped that amount of money with them over the past few weeks/months you

should be treated much different than this. FIND ANOTHER DEALER and let GM know about this.

GM has found that using the wrong oil can affect engine performance and, in the worst case scenario, damage or harm the engine. Only licensed dexos™ products have been certified by GM to meet the dexos™ specification. Unlicensed products have not gone through GM's rigorous testing process, are not monitored for quality, and are not approved or recommended for use in GM vehicles. Unlicensed product quality and suitability for GM vehicles cannot be guaranteed and, therefore, use of unlicensed products may result in lower levels of performance and engine damage not covered under warranty.

There are many authentic licensed dexos™ products readily available at retail outlets, service repair shops, quick lube operations, and GM service centers. dexos™ licensed products are easy to identify. Simply look for the dexos™ icon on the front label and the 11 digit alphanumeric dexos™ license number on the back label. Unless an oil package displays these two markings, the engine oil is not an authentic, licensed dexos™ product and is not recommended for use in GM vehicles

Why would be selling a product that is not recommand for your truck, talk to the GM of the dealship

They left the part out about how the unlicensed oils have not paid the ransom that GM wants in order to receive the "license". And the OP should make sure the GM knows his position. Any dealer that just sold two new units this year to the same customer is a fool to not honour the coupon it sent out, hell the dealer should be doing at least one oil change for FREE just for buying two new units in one year.

This!!! I bought 2 new cars on 12/15/10--'11 Silverado & my wifes '11 Equinox. I have been buying from this dealer since I was 18 years old (now 35). I straight told them since I am buying 2 new vehicles today, I want the 1st oil changes free and throw in a set of GM vent visors on each vehicle. They did it with no questions asked. I even had them put my bedrug in for free before I picked up the truck. Your the customer, you bought 2 new vehicles from them in the same year & the coupon doesn't say that you can't use Dexos. You meet with the GM, get him to give you free oil changes (not discounted) for the trouble you have had to go through, threaten him with calling GM and giving bad surveys and also threaten him with going on social media sites (facebook, twitter, etc) and stating how his dealership lies. You might think that the social network thing is a joke, but I am serious. For some reason, these facebook threats really scare them. The dealership thinks that if you keep badmouthing the dealership, all your FB friends will take notice and not shop there--try it out!!

After you get your free oil changes, report them anyway to GM and keep it up till you get a response. Then find another dealer.

dude, I certainly hope the company that you work for doesn't ever piss someone off and said customer pulls some stuff like you're describing on your company. Good lord, if the dealer makes it right with the OP (which in all honesty, if I was treated like he has been in the past, I wouldn't have bothered with this latest debacle in the first place but I digress) then why the hell should he still double report the dealer to GM CAC. People like you make the service industry even more closed off to deals, etc. Good job.

Who said double report? The dealer isn't honoring their coupon that they sent out. Besides the fact that he was treated rudely by the service manager. He bought 2 new vehicles from the same dealership & this is how he is treated? This is the problem with businesses today----as a consumer, we are just supposed to accept this type of treatment and not do anything about it.

Here's my suggestion. Start treating the customers right, reprimand or terminate the employees that are giving your business a bad name & start caring about the customer. Remember, without customers, you have no employees. Why is this so wrong? This is the way it should be!

you're not out of line at all. i can't stand poor customer treatment like this (not just the oil change, the collective bad experience you've had there). if it were me i'd take all my future maintenance and warranty work to a dealership that treats you better. your money might as well go to them.

    • How many miles were on the truck when you bought it and was there some form of oil change history generated through a dealer or an independent shop although not much would show up if the owner had changed their own oil. Just curious if it was a maintenance issue or if there was something off from the start, surely one would think the original owner would have realized it was using a lot of oil, its hard to go back in time and find out the true story of mysteries like this. Well hopefully the warranty company will go for it and just install a new engine, that would be the ideal outcome.    I still have so few miles on my truck as per not quite 9000 and will be changing the oil shortly which has around 2700 miles on it or so and its down so little on the dipstick from where it was at the beginning of this oil change that I could make the "claim" that it uses no oil but in reality would be a very small amount, less than a 1/16 of an inch. Just driving empty/not towing and easy driving so hard to say what it would do if it had a load behind it for oil consumption. So far very impressed with the very minimal oil usage.
    • I have a 2015 Silverado and sometimes I can not get in to the truck. I use the key to unlock the driver door. Something is locking the truck when I unlock it, last night I left the truck open and this morning it was locked with the mirrors folded in. This happens while driving so it is now a safety issue. I reach down for the folding button and they open, then they close again.  Any advice, thank you,   Ed
    • Did you ever find a resolution to this? my 2019 Silverado 1500 is showing the exact same headlights issues with the exact same symptoms.  would help a ton if anyone has any advice on this or better yet a known solution..
    • Wawa and Meijer here have ethanol free (88 & 89) I use for my mower and lawn equipment.  Its not much more than reg.  I paid $3.29 a few weeks ago.
    • tl; dr I've now reached the 6th floor of hell. I'm chronicling my journey for my morning readers.   Pulling the top of the intake apart was moderately easy but it involved a lot of parts, connections, and minutae. I was preparing for the new fuel lines to arrive ("nut and bolt kit" it's called). The fuel line connections are notched and held in place by the manifold and a metal plate with a T27 screw.   It's on the back of the intake, under the firewall, with little clearance, and two hard metal fuel lines in the way. I was using Franken-tools (weird combinations of 1/4 inch ratchet with/without an extension, with a bit holder for my T27) to get in there. One of my sockets and bits fell off and has yet to emerge on the floor. I lost a second setup and that's when I almost started throwing tools. But that was the point at which I had gotten traction on the Torx head, and it promptly stripped. No more traction.   I started humming "1-877-kars-4-kids" because I was about at that point. You know what? I'm $1500 into this thing and I can make it disappear just as quickly. This isn't fun anymore. I had spent a lot of time already "tidying" around the engine bay: Fixing all the "someone's been here before!" BS. The truck has been exclusively dealer- and shop- serviced and I'm reminded of why I never let other people work on my cars unless absolutely necessary.   Speaking of dealer service. This truck has a 1" stack of records going back to 1995. I put them all in an excel spreadsheet, date/mileage/description.   The CPI spider has been replaced 4 times in 85k miles. The EGR? Another 4. Multiple, multiple O2 sensors. One Cat. 4? Sets of plugs and wires, and I swear half the stack is diagnosis paperwork for "misfire, runs rough, extended crank, dies at stoplights".   GM was producing some proper crap back then. And it was still well within the era of brittle/crappy plastic. (Windows 95 was released the same month this truck was sold new, we HAD the technology!!)   There (was) a plastic shroud around the evaporator core and HVAC fan in the engine bay. I noticed a chunk of it missing so I poked at it some more and it literally shattered. Touched it some more and pieces were crumbling off. Had a good laugh. Clearly whatever plastic garbage they were using had broken down over 30 years and was literally turning to dust. That was a good half hour of using a shop vac to remove the rest of it.   Back to it.   I was going to give up for the evening but then decided I'm already level 10 pissed off at the stripped screw: G* D* it, give me my tools back -- and my JOY. We'll do this the hard way: The whole intake is coming off.   Blazer won Round II. After finally finding and accessing the 12 intake bolts and using a pry bar to unseat it from the heads, it popped loose in an explosion of gunk and grime raining down into open ports. Awesome.   6 times I reminded myself: Be careful of the temperature sender on the front of the intake.   YEAH, I forgot again and snapped it clean off in the removal. Add another $20 to the ever-growing list of new parts this thing is consuming.   The shame is, long before removing the intake, I had changed the oil in prep for Tuesday's momentous fuel line replacement that was going to be the magic fix and I'd have a running Blazer to tool around in this next weekend. The intake removal, including raining gunk, also gushed dirty coolant all over the valley. Of course it did. Welp, there goes another $35.   I now need an intake gasket set, bolt set, coolant temp sensor, another 5 quarts of oil, some RTV. Don't worry, I've already got 3 new jugs of Dexcool and a thermostat waiting. I'll fill it with clean water first to get it running, dump it, and then add the Dex later on in case... well, let's not go there. I'm only tearing this down once, next time the truck is going on Marketplace for FREE.   Oh, and I'm going to need vacuum hose for all the stupid connections placed at the rear of the engine which have since disintegrated. Come on, GM....tell me you don't do that anymore?   Oh, and the ears on the distributor where the cap screws down are both cracked. I mean, why not put a new distributor in it too. You get a distributor, YOU get a distributor, Everyone gets a new distributor!   This truck isn't out of the woods yet...I'm already questioning how much more time I'm willing to sink in.
