Slack In Steering Wheel

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra SLT Crew cab 5.3L.

I have about 2 inches of play in my steering wheel.

If I put my hand on the upper bolt of the intermediate shaft it feels like the slack is above that point,

or in the steering column, because when I turn the steering wheel the bolt does not move.

What part needs to be replaced ?

Do you have a part number ?

your question and results makes no sense also..

I just dont want to pay 90.00 for a GM tech to tell me I need an Intermediate shaft that I can order from GM direct for 55.00.and replace it myself. Sure doesnt make sense in todays economy. I dont know too many people with money to throw away.

You can throw a shaft at it if you want. If you don't want to waste money , have it properly diagnosed. From your's, I'd question that it's the shaft.
