The kit seems to work well, and the ride is not bad. Fabtech did miss a few small parts (bolts, brake cable bracket) and the powdercoated parts were slightly scratched from poor packing.

Still having balancing problems with the tires, there is steering vibration between 50-60mph.

 

This is a lot of work and expense to fit 35" tires under the truck, and the exposed frame looks like ****.

 

I own a 2002 Ford F350 Powerstroke, and this 2002 Chevy 2500HD D/A. I have no brand loyalty, and comparing the products that I have dealt with, I prefer the Ford. The Chevy is still very new to me, so time will tell.

 

Cost to get 315's on the Chevy- approx $3500

Cost to get 315's on the Ford- approx $1400

wait, where is all this added cost on the chevy???  I guess I'm not following.  The price is more than doubled.  Does this include the lift, install, tires, and rims or what?

 

They are both sweet trucks though.

 

But, the HD is going to have that frame exposed regardless of a suspension lift or not.  If it were a body lift it would be a different story, but that's how they come from the factory.

The Ford has a solid front axel with leaf springs. It is much easier and less expensive to lift.

good call, I wasn't even thinking about that being an easier truck to lift.  But that figure still seems low to me.  That's why I was wondering if it included the tires and rims.  I mean, a set of 35's and some new rims will run you about a grand at least and that's for some el cheapo rims.

Ive posted this numerous times, but Chevys need 2" more lift to fit the same size tires than Ford.

 

6" Ford Clears 35's no problem37"s if you run pre runner style wheels.

 

8" Chevy/GMC clears 35's great with no valance trimming or fender rub and 37's if you have pre runner wheels.

 

All 2500 HD Chev and GMC Ive seen with any 6" lift has a trimmed valance and rubber on the back of fender well/flare.  This would be with 35 12.50-16.5 on 16.5X 9.75 Welds with the regular 4 inch or so backspacing the rest being out.  Tall pre runner meats dont matter since they dont stick out Much more than stock.

 

IFS is always more money to lift than straight axle, and thats the one thing I hate about GM, NO straight axle option.

I have a 2002 2500HD with a Fabtech 6" kit. I am running 315/75-16's on Weld 16x8 wheel with 4 5/8" backspacing.

 

I only had to trim the bumper valance, not the bumper. I will occasionally rub the very bottom of the bumper if the wheels are turned and I am going over a bigbump.

 

I paid 1400 for my kit with shocks. I installed my self, so that was a big savings. I would suggest not buying the shocks, they are garbage. save some money, then buy the Bilsteins. Much worth it.

 

The only thing I do not like about my kit, is how far out the new steering knuckle places the wheel. The overall track width is increased about 5"

 

If I were to buy again, I would probably buy the RCD, because the knuckle does not stick the rim out AS far, you get the Bilstein shocks with the kit, and you can use the factory skid plate.

Very nice truck.  I have two questions.  First, "What brand is your billet grille insert?  And secondly, "Where did you purchase your shocks from?"  Whenever I look for the 7100 shock application chart, I don't see them for my application?  "Would I need to search for a specific length, or should I speak with a Bilstein Tech person?"  Actually, that turned out to be 3 questions.  Sorry.  :cheers:

the only place these shocks are available is from RCD. the are specially made for them. bilstein will not sell them to anybody else. you have to buy them from an RCD dealer. i had the toughest and longest time getting a set because RCD would not sell them seperate from their lift kits. they finally started selling them seperate. i have had them for a month. they are awesome. they are the 5100's. here are the part numbers:

Front: B-E5-6135-T5, Rear: B-E5-6134-T5

 

i just saw in an off-road mag that pro-comp is coming out with remote resevoir shocks soon. they are similar to the fox and bilstein 7100's.

Kylant do you mean the track is increased 5" meaning the wheels Center stance is 5" wider than the rear?

 

Normally they end up skinnier.  Pro-Comp advertises they maintain the stock width.

 

I was thinking of going 8" Fabcraft but now I dunno.  I just dont know why they dont use drop brackets and call it good.  Maybe thats what Pro-Comp does.(My Old Chevy pro-Comp stayed stock width or visibly close to it but never actually measured it.)

 

Also how much fabricating did you have to do, or welding?

 

Stupid Chevy needs a straight axle option.  IFS sucks.  Your truck looks mighty clean.

    • Whoever greenlighted the work truck matte black front bumpers on every trim but the AT4X should be fired!  I was hoping that was an AI mistake, but just realized they were on every model of the 2027 Silverado too.     Some parts of the interior do look premium, but the Denali Ultimate dashboard looks like an afterthought.  At least they appear to have lost the microfiber the high end Silverado models showed, but the '27 High Country dash looks better than the Denali.  
    • New member here. I am researching a read-first event-recorder concept for late-model GM V8 trucks. This is not a sales post. There is no product link, price, preorder, or mailing list. I am trying to determine whether the underlying problem is real before building anything.   Has your truck ever had a brief problem such as: - rough running or a momentary misfire - an oil-pressure warning or unusual pressure event - reduced power or a brief stall - a U-code or lost-communication problem - a symptom that disappeared before the dealer or independent shop could reproduce it   If so, I would appreciate the following details: - year, model, engine, and mileage - what happened and under what conditions - whether a DTC and useful freeze-frame data were stored - whether the shop was able to reproduce it - what the eventual confirmed repair was, if known - what additional information would have helped the diagnosis   The concept being evaluated is a removable leave-in recorder that continuously retains a rolling window from before and after an event. It would not tune, reflash, clear codes, or change the vehicle calibration.   I am also not claiming that it could predict lifter failure or see every internal ECM variable.   The real question is whether continuous event history would add enough useful evidence beyond freeze frame, GDS2, and existing scan tools — or whether it would simply be another unnecessary gadget.   For owners and technicians, which problem would make something like this genuinely useful: 1. intermittent misfire or AFM/DFM-related behavior 2. oil-pressure events 3. lost communication or electrical faults 4. none of the above Please be blunt. Negative feedback is just as useful as positive feedback.
    • No tears over the SLE and SLT trim levels disappearing but I kind of loathe the "Elevation" name. It's a truck--skip the elegance.   The slab-dashboard design is decidedly different. Almost has a Hummer flavor to it. "Professional Grade" seems to be leaning very white-collar, tech-driven these days moreso than blue-collar, functional design.   The Silverado would be my choice between the two new trucks. Pleased with the engine lineup in both. The GMC is a little "too much" for a truck, IMO, and the Denali borders on ridiculous - but I do know there are buyers for luxury trucks out there. It's just not my speed.

    • - I like the outside but not as much as the Chevrolet.  They ICE'd the EV styling and it works, but I think exterior goes to Chevy on this one.     - SLE and SLT dead = Not.  Surprising.  Fits into the rest of the GMC lineup like this which (aside from Pro) matches the rest of the family.  Elevation, AT4, Denali.     - Interior.  Sophisticated Malaise era.  Why do I say Malaise?  Drawn with a ruler.  Rectangles everywhere.  Looks very premium though.
