BFG 285s

Hey guys,

for those of you that ended up getting the BFG A/T 285s, did you also replace your spare?  I was told that the tire won't fit on the spare rim since it is a 6" rim.  Are the normal rims 7" rims?  Will the new spare fit under the truck with a larger rim?  Thanks for the help.

I have a 285 BFG spare.  Don't know off hand what size the rim is, but it's the plain, silver steel wheel.  It fits fine under the truck.  The only modification I had to make was the tail pipes that were run from the back of my flowmaster a couple years ago.  They came kind of close to hitting te tire on one side, so I just cut the pipes off and have them dumped right after they come over the axle.  One of these days I'll get around to getting new tailpipes routed.     Shouldn't have any problems with the stock exhaust and tail pipe though.  

 

Ryan has a 285 spare also, and as far as I know, he hasn't had a problem either.

I'm almost positive that the spare wheel is 16x6.5. There should be no problem with a 285 on the 6.5" rim. Alot of people are putting 285's on the HD rims which are 16x6.5.

yep i have a 285 spare on the steel rim (6.5" wide)

 

I think i have 25 miles on it.  The tire does fit under the truck with the 285s but i throw it and lock it up in the bed

I have a 285/75 on a 16x8 wheel.  Fits just fine under my 03 HD.  I have about 2" clearance on each side.
