Axle Hopping....

So on Sunday, rain soaked roads, driving around I noticed the wheels "bouncing" as I made a sharp corner, turning onto a side street. At first I thought that maybe the tires were slipping a pit since it was a light misty rain. Pulling into a parking lot and backing into a space, I noticed it again. so now I'm thinking that the posi was locked in, even though it shouldn't be. It stopped a little bit later and I haven't been able to recreate it.

I took my truck in to the dealer today to have it looked at. Just because the truck isn't even a year old yet and I wanted to make sure something wasn't going bad. I just got a call from the service tech. He was able to get the truck to do the same thing as I described, but thinks it's in the transmission. anyone else have this same issue or experience anything like it? The tech made a comment that "it feels like a gear tooth is missing".

I really don't think it's the tranny since the wheel as being powered and nothing is slipping.

Sounds like rear end to me....all the 'teeth' in the trans are too small and there are too many engaged at once to feel 1 missing. The rear gears tho are a different story.

I wonder if you got one of the rear axles that had an issue with the cross pin bolt ?

you go over bump, taking a corner, if your truck bounce and trying to come around you ? - you have bad Shock absorbers / Tires or suspension components

I may be wrong as usual :dunno:

locking rear end?

wet road + cornering + loss of traction = G80 engagement

you forgot "yaaaahhhooooo! " as your truck slides around the corner and you use the throttle to control the slide. :dunno:

I have to take it back to the dealership next week. I have noticed a "thump" in the drive line that happens when you coast down a hill, while turning, then applying some throttle. As for the shear pin issue, I don't think so, I thought those were limited to a select number of 2011's. Mine's a 2010.

If I hear more, I'll let you know.

Ok, got my truck back from the dealership. Maybe someone that speaks "Dealer-eese" can explain further...

"23166 Software programming TCCM systems tested had no stored codes in any modules function tested checked for bulletin checked for software updates had program for binding parking maneuvers for transfer case warr claim #18ABE cleared any set codes roadtested with no found problems."

Well obviously, GM techs don't like to use any puncuation. Anway, they told me they found a software glitch which was letting the rear dif lock in the posi when it shouldn't have been. But reading the repair report says no codes were being thrown.

well, I got her back and it's running fine and doesn't seem to have the problem it had before.

Well too bad they did not explain anything too well. Electronics has no control over the factory G80 unit, just wheel speed and centrfigal force that is all that is needed to lock the cogs up.
