Gm Drop In Bedliners

I just looked at several new trucks at the local Chevy dealership and all had a GM drop in bedliner installed. On one truck the front of the bedliner, where it is attached to the front bed panel with about 4 self tapping screws, was badly bowed out. It looked terrible. Especially because this was a $ 56k sticker truck. Can't GM come up with a bit neater and better way to install these? On my Nissan truck years ago, the factory bedliner had a lip that went of the front panel, and threaded holes were already provided where needed to install the bedliner without drilling holes into the bed. Same thing for tailgate. GM bedliner tailgate piece requires about 10 holes to be drilled into the tailgate.

Agreed. My Truck had the exact same situation. Told salesman I wanted it fixed by the time I picked it up. This is not a joke, they used two sided velco to try to plug the gap. It did not last for the ride home. I told the saleman I wanted it fixed. He gave me some lip, did not want to do it. Spoke with General Manager. Threatened to give them a bad review on the GM satisfaction survery. They replaced it. BTW, bedliner is junk. Its paper thin and the plugs that cover the tie down hooks are flimsy. They can and should do better.

I have one in my 2010 that I installed my self. No problems with the GM liner. This is the 4th truck I used one on and would again. The reason it is bowed like is from the heat expanding the plastic. I was installed when it was cooler and they parked in the sun.

Just remove the screws and wen it settles back move them.

Keep in mind the people installing these accessories at the dealer are normally the low entry guys who might be installing one of these for the first time.

i made the dealer remove the drop in liner on mine, and they gave me a credit for it. a couple weeks later i had a friend spray in a bedliner for $50 less than the credit i got on it.

if your looking for a new truck, i'd suggest you ask them to remove the bedliner so you can have one sprayed in. and see if they'll give you credit for it.

True, I have seen it for myself. A large Chevy dealer around here went out of business about 5 years ago and that is exactly what they did. They added GM bedliner to every truck on their lot for profit (they were charging a lot more than retail for it) and had 16 year old kids installing them. It is no wonder this dealer went out of business. They were crooks. They even cheated me by charging me 10% over retail for some GM accessories while telling me that they were already discounted. (I know I should have checked the price, but it was only splash guards and the bug deflector). One of their managers opened up a motorcycle dealership after the Chevy dealership went bankrupt. He instituted the same crooked practices and the dealership went bankrupt several years later. It was an unbelievably dishonest operation. Like lying to naive customers about retail prices of motorcycles and selling them way over retail with all kinds of bogus fees attached. Employing an army of salesmen who lived on sales commission only and received no salary at all (I talked to some of them after the place went out of business).

I have a drop in on my truck and it does the job. When i bought the truck it was already installed and they were not going to give me a credit. It was not that big of a deal as it was $100 add on. My vehicle was a demo ride that one of the managers drove for a few months. Once it gets bad enough i will get a LineX. The main concern i have is that the bed will rust from all the water trapped underneath the liner.

Sometimes the GM truck bed liners are just tacked in for show. At least that is what they do at the dealership I go to. It is only added to the cost of the vehicle if you, the buyer, wants it. Just like with tool boxes, nerf bars, running boards, etc.. I purchased a 2010 Chevy Silverado 4x4 crew cab that had the "tacked in" bed liner and I wanted one and they took it to the parts/accessories department and those guys put it on and it looked great and continues to look great. Now those guys were not teenagers, but I can't say that they don't hire them. As someone mentioned before, it could have been warped due to the heat, but it can be fixed. As the old saying goes, if it doesn't look right, then don't buy it. Good luck!

It is sad that the dealers or GM can't put more into the bedliner but I'd never buy a new truck with one anyhow. If I'm spending that kind of coin I'll throw down a few hundred more for Line-X.

I don't understand the desire for a drop in liner, they actually cause more damage than the safe. If you need a liner get a quality spray in liner and have some real protection that will last and look good.

Just got my truck last Thursday and negotiated in a spray in bed liner to boot! I simply told my salesman that it would require a spray in bed liner to make the sale.

I bought my 2011 a few months ago. It had a drop in liner. My ladder rack is on it's way, so I ripped the liner out to have line-x sprayed in, and over the rails before i install the rack. When I pulled the drop in out, there were bunches of wet, rotten old leaves packed in the front of the bed, under the liner! There is no possible way that they got in there after the liner was installed; These guys installed the drop in over the pile of rotten shit, thanks GM.

Those drop-in liners were very nice 7 or 8 years ago but now they are a thing of the past. The dealer that i go to spray a liner called vortex and had it done once ang regreted it. If you need a liner go linex. I would rather have a bed mat than a cheezy plastic liner but that is just me.

I always use a heavy rubber bed mat in every pickup I have ever owned. I also like to use a plastic bedliner tailgate piece, but here is where GM designed it wrong- I will not drill 10 holes in my tailgate just to attach the stupid piece. I tired with double sided 3M tape, but it did not work too well.

Thats just a old wives tale from the spray in crowd.......~ducks~
