What's With The Tiny Oil Filter?

So I see on the wix brand equivalent for PF48, the by pass valve setting is 8. For wix equivalent to PF63, the by pass valve setting is 12-15. Is this a potential issue or hazard? The threads are the same but the gasket diameters for the PF63 are bigger as well. Thanks ahead of time

 

I don't see as to why the bypass valve spec should be of any alarm but seal demensions were the same, I could have sworn. I do not, however, have the specs in front of me.

Well, a simple question turned into a lively discussion! I will not worry how small the filter is. Grown men should never worry how small anything is as they get larger, like a PF63! Anyways, as I run Mobil 1 extended life oil, I will change my filter @ 6k and the oil @ 12k.

I have a 2008 5.3L. The AC Delco PF48 equivilent for Purolator and Wix are PL12222 and 57060. Does anybody know what the Purolator and Wix equivilents are for the PF63 (longer version of the 48)?

The 1357 I would be scared the gasket wouldn't seal off.... As it is the wrong filter. (It is an automotive filter, used on Mazda 2.0 & 2.4's.)

The oil filter used in the Cadillac CTS V6 engines (not the V). Very easy to R & R, on top of the engine with easy access and no mess.

 

 

The filter is enclosed under the hex cap you see near the dip stick. The plastic engine cover comes off and makes easy access.

Mike, I wish GM would have kept that filter location on our 3.6 in the Acadia. There must be a reason they didn't but why is my question. There are both the same engine.

How is the engine mounted in the Acadia, Transverse? or Longitudinal? My nephew 2005 Buick LaCross has same engine but is transverse mounted and uses a spin on filter. Engine in the CTS is mounted like a typical rear wheel drive engine, crank at right angles to axle. CTS is a rear wheel drive car platform.

 

 

Transverse = crankshaft parallel with axles

Longitudinal = crankshaft at right angels to axles

The 3.6 engine in the CTS, is totally different than the 3.6 in a Traverse/Acadia/Outlook/Enclave.

Changed my oil today and advanced auto had a special on valvoline full synthetic with a bosch distance plus filter, I usually would go for these kind of deals since I use ac delcos but being low on cash this month the deal was too good to pass, so has anyone used these before? Never payed attention to these till today and were new to me but one thing I did notice was when the filter was on and I. Put the new oil in I checked for leaks, not ever expecting any, and saw the filter was infact leaking, I. Snugged the filter up a little more and wiped the filter off and waited 5 min before I started the truck, so far its not leaking but I will check once more in the morning.

Seen that all too many times with cheap filters (i.e. Fram) and personally, I wouldn't trust it to NOT leak. Sounds like the seal is too hard.

Mike it is mounted sideways like all the Lambda platform vehicles. I still think they could have made it work out like in the CTS.

It would merely be a matter of a few ounces, if that. Hopefully, some of that extra length is consumed by filter cartridge material......
