Mexican 8100's?

A friend of mine just bought a new 3/4 ton 8100 Suburban.

The window sticker says it was made in Mexico. Are all the 8100's, including the trucks coming from Mexico or just the 3/4 ton Suburbans?

Good to hear the 8100 engine is made here in the USA...

I guess the dealer told him the 1/2 ton Chevy Suburbans are made here, but the 3/4 ton Suburbans are now being assembled in Mexico. My friend's has the 8100 in it, that's why I was wondering where the engine was made.

He really likes his 3/4 ton 8100 Suburban, I rode in it when he trailered a car of mine for me. I liked it a lot too. You could barely tell we were pulling a car. Very smooth and effortless.

I'm thinking of buying a new Chevy truck soon, I'd like to get something with the 8100 also. I want to buy something that's made and assembled in the USA though. -Or at least as much as possible.

Are the 3/4 ton Chevy trucks still being assembled here? (hope so) If not, can you get the 8100 in a 1/2 ton truck or 1/2 ton Suburban?

Too bad the 3/4 ton Suburbans have gone to Mexico, I'd really liked to have bought one...

There are 3 truck plants.  1 is in Fort Wayne Indiana (where mine was made and also the state i live in  ) and i think they only make 1500 series

Another is in Michigan (city???) and they make em all.  The final plant which makes silverados is in canada.

As far as engines go they are made in ohio (duramax), michigan, New york and canada

Suburban's and Tahoe's themselves are assembled in one of two plants.  1 = Janesville Wisconsin (I've toured this plant) and 2 = Somewhere in Mexico.

That is their FINAL ASSEMBLY!

The 8.1 engine itself is assembled in Tonawanda, NY where the BBC has been assembled for years.  Just outside of Buffalo.

The first thing I check when I bought my truck was to make sure it was built in the states.  My truck was built in Texas by Texans so the sticker in the door says.  But my dad's truck was built in Ohio.  My 1500 Z71 was built in Canada and I'm having the most trouble out of this one...hmmm... :D

Thanks for all the info guys...

So does anyone know if I can get the 8100 in a 1/2 ton? If not, is GM planning to do so in the near future?

I think at this point I'm leaning towards a 3/4 ton Chevy truck since it's built and assembled here and I can get it with the 8100.

I'll be waiting till spring to place my order though.

a 5.3 is the largest you can get in a 1/2 ton (except the 6.0 in the 1500HD crewcab)

Reason being C.A.F.E.  You will never see the big block in the half tons (unless you put it in yourself)
