Feds open 'formal safety defect' probe into Chevy Volt

 

Federal safety regulators announced Friday that they have opened "a formal safety defect investigation" into the Chevrolet Volt over concerns the electric car's battery may pose a significant fire risk.

When I went online for school this morning, this came up as a top story from the school. It sounds like it could be a serious issue but might be just the feds taking too many precautions. Hopefully it isn't a real problem and doesn't effect the Volt's sales.

Yeah I've been following this for a while now and I'm concerned it will be something naysayers may try to use against GM. The Volt has a lot of public opinion stacked against it even before this sadly even though I think it (or other cars like it) are the only practical/useful application of battery power so far. Sorry but a pure electric vehicle that can only go 80 miles is worthless to me. Even the high end stuff that has a couple hundred mile range aren't useful yet. Not until the battery can be recharged in a reasonable amount of time.

the volt will never be succsesful the way its priced right now even if it didnt have any issues...and it does have issues
