Balancing wheels

Can the wheels on my 2006 2500HD be balanced by putting wheel weights on inside of wheel only?? The reason I asked as when the old weights are taken off the alum wheels have tarnished quite a bit under the wheel weights. Can this tarnish be polished off?? I was thinking if weights werere inside only I wouldn't have this problem. Thanks

Weights on inside only?....absolutely,mine are that way.I told the tech weights on inside only.Took him a little longer to get the BFG KM2s balanced but he got it done,very smooth at any speed.Not sure about the tarnish...if your wheels have a clear coat(most do)it isn't gonna be easy to remove.

Yes they can. I have clip-on weights on the inside lip of the rim, as well as stick-on weights on the inside face. For 10-ply 33's, they're smooth as glass.

Balance mine on the outside and you will get to redo it......... I am a stickler about the whole wheel weight thing. I DO NOT want to see them, period. I am a big enough jerk about it, I take my own weights and hand them to the tech. As well as 3M sticker weights.

Putting them on the wheel scars the wheel. If its on the back no problem, I don't have to look at them all the time.

My 96 Ford F150, I had some kind of beads added to the tires to get them to smooth out. I had 35's on it and they couldn't get them to balance. The added the beads and bam, fixed. Only problem if you got mud on the tires the wheels were GROSSLY out of balance till you got all the mud off (mile or two or three).

Just balancing the inside lip is not somthing that I recommend. If you balance the outside lip behind the face of the wheel with stick on weights, that is at least a form of dynamic balancing and dynamic balancing is worlds and above just doing the inside lip.

The Hunter GSP9700 is one of, if not the best balancer on the market. Go to their website and you can search local shops that use it. It is a road force balancer and it works great.

You can use stick on weights with it as well.

Not to mention that is on GM's recommended tool/equipment list for ALL GM dealers. I have extensive knowledge and logged many hours on a GSP9700 and I will completely agree that it is one fine piece of machinery.
