Forbes Magazine released their list of Safest Small Cars for under $20,000 and Emporia Chevy dealer Jeff Longbine was not surprised by the rankings.

The Chevy Cruze ranked number one and the Chevy Sonic was two.

“The results show that GM is building world class cars with safety in mind,” Longbine said. “Both of these cars are new models and are very well engineered and designed.”

The Chevy Cruze is the best selling in car in the United States, Longbine said, beating Toyota Camry and the Ford Focus .

I've driven both and have been extremely impressed. If the Cruze diesel ends up being decent I may buy one as a commuter car in a few years. The Sonic was a bit small for me (all subcompacts are though) but build quality was there and it drove pretty nice.

The Fiancé', and I drove one yesterday. It was a Blue Topaz with the RS Package. All I can say is wow I am VERY Impressed. IMO it is light years ahead of her Legacy as far as quality and comfort! We would have bought it, but it wasn't the color that she wants, and the dealer doesn't want to work with us on the payoff of her car. We'll be going to the dealer where I bought my truck on Monday to see what they can find her. GM is going to make another sale just depends on which dealer is willing to work with us, which I think my Dealership will.

Congrats Daryl! It really does make me happy to hear that GM is getting their act together and improving their small cars. Before I got my first truck, I had several GM vehicles, a 93 Caprice, a 94 Grand Prix, to name 2 of them. I really liked them both and had wanted to get me a 95-98 Lumina next, but had a Jeep bug up my butt so drove a 89 Cherokee, 89 Wrangler, 94 Grand Cherokee, then got into my 99 Silverado and since then there was no going back to a car. I wish I could afford to have both a car and a truck as I would surely have that Lumina or perhaps even a 88-92 Camaro Z28 or a 94-96 Impala SS. <sigh>

I guess brake pads are now optional.

GM gets the strut, hub and brake system on each corner as an assembly. It is/was a supplier issue. Still pathetic that the monkeys making the component can't do their job right though.

It's still 100% GM's responsibility. It's called QC.

Not sure what Mr Longbine was smoking... but he's wrong.

Sales through December 1, 2011

Toyota Camry 275,004

Chevy Cruz 215,057

GM is certainly improving their small car offerings but lets keep the facts straight.

Nah, I hate all little crapboxes equally. It's the current GM trucks I have an issue with.
