That's the problem, the filter wrench is not the right one. Sounds like you need to buy the correct one, not a two size jobber. They can be found at Wal-Mart for like $8.00.

If anyone is having "trouble" getting at the filter, you are probably using an old school filter wrench, that's the problem. You need to get yourself one of these :

Maybe it's just me, but I have a wrench like that and I have a heck of a hard time getting it onto the filter on my '09 Sierra. The filter itself is easy to get to and is in a great location, but to me it sits too deep into its housing and is hard to get a wrench on to. I usually end up gripping and cussing for about 20 min turning it ever so slowly until the seal breaks free and I can unscrew the rest of it easily.

 

 

LOL..........You have to be doing something wrong. All you need is a ratchet, extension and that's it. The filter wrench in the picture is a perfect fit for the AC Delco filter.......What brand filter are you using?

 

 

Usually use the Purolator Pure One oil filters. To me it just seens there isn't enough room on the back side of the filter (between the filter and the engine) to be able to slip the wrench onto. But if all you guys are doing it, I must just be doing it wrong. I'll crawl under there again and try some more in a day or so.

I just changed the oil for the first time in my new to me 05 5.3. Bought the ac delco pf63 at walmart. That was the only filter they listed for that truck. Maybe all the newer filter books in auto part stores will only have this new #. I was looking for the filter size that was in my manual but they didn't even have one there..... BTW don't buy a fram oil filter. Take a fram and the ac delco filters out of their boxes and look at the size of the holes. I didn't compare the fram to the pf63. But the fram I compared to the oil filter to my buick was a big difference in hole size.
