just one more thing..before you pull the rear cover off, make sure you loosen your fill plug first..it sucks finding out the plug is frozen tight when you want to fill it up. just ask me how i know...

BTW- a little anti seize compound works wonders for the next time..

I just changed my rear differential fluid yesterday. I used Lucas synthetic gear oil 75w-90. I've heard on different threads that you don't need to add any kind of additives and that the lucas fluid alone would be good even if you have the limited slip differential. Is this true?

DO NOT use a fluid with a limited slip additive in it if you have the factory locking rear differential. '99 and up trucks ALL had full synthetic fluid in the rear axle (unless it was a quadrasteer axle) from the factory. 75w90 is the weight recommended and used from the factory.

Has anybody used Lucas synthetic 75w-90gear oil on a 03-04 chevy silverado Z71. I just used that on my 03. I want to make sure it was a good choice. Thanks in advance for any input.

I'd use any quality name brand synthetic. Mobil, Amsoil, Valvoline etc....

For the diff covers, my Dremel carbon brush worked very well, and kept a smooth finish on the mating services.

Should be a10 bolt but just count up the bolts on your cover and you'll know for a fact.

It was in the shop getting the tires changed... so I couldn't count them and my Advance said they only had the 10 bolts. I just wanted to know at the time if I needed to look for 14 bolt. It is 10 and I got it. Took about an hour. Not bad.

I drove it about 10 miles and it made a little bit of noise as I throttled through a couple of turns. I used Royal Purple...
