5.3L Engine Issues

My 2010 Sierra SLT w/ Vortec 5.3L engine is making an intermittent clicking-ratcheting sound under the hood. This clicking is quite rapid and loud enought to hear when rolling into an intersection (I think the sound may be there quiet often but simply drowned out by other sounds when rolling down the road). However, the clicking sound does continue, albeit briefly, once stopped so I am not sure vehicle motion is needed, just the engine running. The clicking sound is best described as the sound of an electro-mechanical solenoid trying to adjust something....very quickly. .

 

It is not a valve tap as that goes away in about 10 seconds once warm and I know what that sounds like.

 

The dealer is thinking it's separtion of the the wheels, 20" Chrome Clad, for which there apparently is a service bulletin. The consistent frequency and loudness of the sound I am hearing seems more like a mis-guided solenoid......

 

Anyone out there experinced a similar issue?

Don't know about the wheel seperation, not sure if you would be able to hear that sitting at a stop light? ........I think you can count that out as not being the issue.

I get intermittent lifter noise at startup, as does My Son who also has a 2010 5.3 silverado.

The truck seems to running fine so I think injectors are out. Had some younger ears listen to it and they described the sound as a ratcheting or small compressor like sound. It lasts for a good 10-15 seconds after braking. It still makes the sound even after taking the foot off the brake. Are there computer controled solenoids in the braking system? ABS?

I'm not sure about that. I will have to defer to somebody with more knowledge of these newer models. It wouldn't surprise me though. Everything is overly complicated and computer controlled these days. Good luck.
