It was irritating, even with a 4 speed.

I must admit though, when I had it, it was pretty seamless, just useless.

Irritating but seamless??? If it was seamless that would mean you didnt notice it so how was it irritating?

That's why his name is Grumpy Aero Guy! :lol: You guys need to realize it is all about the CAFE standards. No matter what you think about it, it is for the big picture to keep the Government and Eco nuts from banning our trucks!

what I meant was, it wasn't so terribly irritating that it becomes a show stopper for the truck when it went back and forth, but, with an aftermarket muffler, the 4 cyl growl was irritating, and there was a slight delay at hwy speeds when accelerating out of 4 cyl mode. I prefer 8 cyl mode all the time.... that's all

tough crowd.... LOL

yep, just EPA test cycle fodder. It was probably tailored and calibrated just for that and nothing else...

Probably so. Most of those EPA mileage stickers are crap. I have heard from other guys on here it sounds like crap in V4 mode with aftermarket exhaust.

I remember my son had a 2006 Dodge Ram with AFM...he removed the factory mufflers and installed straight pipes...every time that think kicked into V4 mode it sounded like crap...they all sound that way when a high school graduate monkeys with a machine engineered by guys with masters degrees.

I agree with the epa mileage stickers....thats half the reason I traded my SS in was because of the "higher" mpg. I dont get any better fuel economy I lost about 35 HP, and the SS's had 4:10's....My truck only has 1500 miles on it but damn.....I cant get it to average better than 14.5 mpg. Maybe if I drive like a grandma with wind pushing me I will get sticker numbers...hell with that. If I would have known this id have gotten a 6.2 or a 2500 with 6.0 liter and 3.73's.

Back to topic my AFM did not appear to be working hardly at all compared to others with gmt 900's...I took it to dealer to get my paint fixed (clearcoat blemish) and they said they would look at it. AFM is worse now then it was before it only kicks in when I'm coasting downhill or slowing down.

AFM = All For Marketing

The most accurate definition I've seen yet. Get people to think their saving the planet and you're good to go. I've had mine disabled with Diablosport for 3 years and average 16 to 18 mpg year round with close to 20 at interstate speeds in the summer. Not bad for a full time V8 with normal sounding exhaust. :driving:

Can someone explain to me why GM does not use the AFM in Colorado pickups equipped with the optional 5.3 liter enigne? It seems that it would provide more meaningful fuel savings in that application.

It doesn't.

And could you please make your sig pics a little bigger, I can barely make out what they are.

Under load, it will never activate AFM.

You can crop and resize pics using Photobucket or just about any photo editing software. Until you figure it out or have someone do it for you, I suggest removing them, that is really annoying. No offense intended.

The Colorado doesn't have the LC9 to the best of my knowledge. I don't think that 5.3 has any of the other fun stuff like VVT either. I doubt AFM offers much in the way of real-world savings in any vehicle though, GM added it because it probably helps with the EPA test cycle which doesn't really resemble real-world driving at all. I didn't buy the 5.3 because of AFM, I doubt anyone here did. I knew going into the truck last March that $5/gal fuel could very well be a reality and I'm fine with that. Honestly with the way I drive AFM rarely kicks in anyhow.
