Which Tool Box to go with?

I know im about to piss some guys off but I've been doing my own research and I bought a Tractor Supply box last week on Thursday night .. well Friday morning I took it back, it was so flimsey that when you tried to close it from the side it wouldn't latch the other side. Now I do know if you step up to the better boxes you get the reinforced lid so maybe that would make the difference but they just made me mad with the customer service so I didn't bother to look at any others. By the way they are all made by DeeZee. Now what I have found is that Kobalt is made by better built. Better built has three lines of boxes the crown, the SEC (special edition crown) and the HD. Also if you buy one with the Kobalt logo on the front of it its waranted for life because its a kobalt with there no questions asked replacement policy. Now the SEC version has better handles (you can tell if they are sideways, open like a car door) and they have a reinforced lid that is foam injected .. really tough!! So at lowes they have the Kobalt(Better Built) Box thats deep in the SEC model for 288.00 which if you were to buy that with the Better Built logo it would be 400.00. SO thats my input, do with it what you want but I know what im going to do.

i know exactly what you mean and that is my one complaint about the TSC deezee box. only reason i didnt return it is that i got it for 100 off the normal price because of a scratch.

what i did to was adjust the handles so they were not as tight and now i can close it with one side

Oh sweet .. thats a good idea, I got the one I bought on their 20% off sale but just wanted to find a more rugged one. Im really glad you didn't think I was insulting you, I wasn't trying to at all.

I ended up picking up a delta box today at the canadian TSC. I'll post a pic once I get it on. Seems like delta put a but more quality into their boxes now

Alright, Got it all installed and a few things in it already, looks much better than the tonneau cover. Sorry the truck is a little dirty.. its been -20 C for the past few days.. a little too cold to wash it.

If your looking for a toolbox to make your grocery getter look bad a$$ go with the cheapie brands. But if you need a box to secure thousands $$$ worth of tools, that your going to be in and out of every day get something quality like weatherguard. The no-name brands don't even come close to comparing

O well, last I checked Delta isn't a no name brand so I think I'll be ok. And I wouldn't store tools anyways in a truck in our climate. Way to much freeze and thaw. It'll just wreck them. From the research I've done most no name brands are companies that have gotten name brand companies to make the box for them and all they did was slap their sticker on it.

I've had "no-name" brand boxes on every truck I've ever owened until this one. All of them worked just fine for what I needed them for, to "look cool" and to keep a floor jack, jack stands, jumper cables and other misc. junk in until this truck. I traded a guy my low profile DeeZee box for a PERFECT, less than a year old Weatherguard. He bought the truck with it on it and didn't like how big it looked so asked me if I would trade him......uhhhhh....YEAH! hahaha Honestly, if you ever have to replace a toolbox just some how get your hands on a weatherguard and it'll most likely be the last toolbox you buy for your truck.

I'm happy with the new delta box so far. It's snowed, freezing rain and more snow. No leaks or snow inside yet.

pay the money up front and go with a good quality box, I bought several boxes over the years from pep-boys to tractor supply, they have have the good/downfalls, this time I wnet with a weather guard and couldn't be happier.

added a 2" led marker light to each side gave it a real nice look

Do you have tractor supply by you? If so check out their boxes (they are made by delta)

I agree. I have had a Tractor Supply tool box in my past two Chevys and it has done me well.

Thats funny, I keep a milk crate in that same spot to hold stuff, including my jumper cables.

Great minds think alike.

Can't beat the milk crates. Sooo many uses. I have another one going in once it gets warm to hold all the ATV stuff.
