Diff cover rusted through

2005 2500HD w/6.0L gas 48,000 mi.

Just the other day I noticed a small amount of gear oil on the garage floor. Inspection shows a heavily rusted diff cover and oil has started to weep through the cover itself. No, it isn't the gasket or the driveshaft seal.

Worse is the fill hole is rusted TIGHT.

Will an aftermarket 14 bolt cover for a diesel fit my diff? All HD differentials are the same for 2500's aren't they? Need to find one with a fill hole.

Thanks. John

Diesel and gas use different differentials. Gas is the 10.5" and diesel is the 11.5".

Thanks for the info.

Got the old cover off. Where rust was the worst I could bend the cover inward with my thumb. Wouldn't have been long before the small holes became much larger.

Also Summit has Diff covers for sale that are pretty cheap. They are not as good as the MAG stufff but they do what they are supposed to do.
