Just a new guy (truck on the way)

I just wanted to get my first post out of the way, so much pressure! lol.

Hoping this is one of the best Chevy Truck Forums in existence and from what I can tell it's pretty great looking. It's been a while since I've been a member of a truck forum, the last one was quite a few years back and not really the same (fordtruck***********.com, sorry.) Looking to get involved but it's kind of hectic at the moment and don't have that much time. I am in the middle of moving back to the states and have about a week left of packing and a week left of finishing things up to leave and fly out. I'll be scarce during that time but should be around a lot more in the later part of Feb.

Been a GM guy my whole life and I've owned quite a few of them, although I don't currently have a Chevy yet, but I did put the order in today and will be picking up when I get back to the states so I am pretty stoked about it. Look forward to browsing the site and getting to know all the tips and tricks in making my new truck my own. Good to be here, thanks for having me.

Truck should be on it's way to a dealer in texas with my name on it:

2012 Silverado CrewCab 4X4 Z71 w/Z71 Appearance Package, 6.2L Silver Ice... Can't wait!!

Welcome and BIG congrats on your order. When I ordered mine, the wait was 6 weeks till I took delivery. In the scheme of things, it was here before I knew it.

You'll LOVE the 6.2L too.

Well,

Things didn't go as planned as the dealer didn't trade the vehicle I wanted in time due to someone "paying cash" for it, so I lost it. This was real unfortunate because it was the only one of it's kind in their 500 mile radius. Kind of crappy that $1000 down can't get you a solid promise anymore. So....

Had to go for another option which I have a little heartburn about because it's Black, and Black is good but man is it hot especially down south.

In the works: GMC Sierra SLT CrewCab Black w/Black interior All Terrain Package (stealth and steel gray don't exist in these packages apparently). Anyway, hoping for the best.

Good luck brother

Black is beautiful but... it's alot of work to keep looking that way. My previous truck was black and I loved it... but I didn't love all the work :dunno:

Welcome, don't settle if you can't find one I suggest ordering exactly what you want

Welcome! Hopefully you can find that truck that you want. Like Ryan said above if your not sure I would think about ordering one.

Take your time and get exactly what you want... They tried to put me in everything else instead of what I wanted. Call around and someone will find it for you somewhere.

Yeah, I am thinking of ordering but I don't think I can put it off for another 8 weeks. I kind of need it when we land in the US on 11 Feb, not impossible but not the best either. Don't get me wrong, I love black, and MisterC, dang, nice truck. I just don't want to keep the Louisana dust and dirt off of it all the time, especially moving to a house with no garage :( My wife loves black, but both pick the Ice silver as the preference. Thanks for the replies, I'll keep you posted and someday will show some pics of something.

My tastes aren't different then most, but apparently, the 6.2L is a tough find in the colors and style I want. Amazingly they are not well stocked. I could get the 5.3 and my troubles would be solved, but if I'm gonna get bad MPG, I might as well get BAD MPG and enjoy it ;)

I searched for more than a year and couldn't find exactly what I wanted. In the end, I ordered. It took 6 weeks to take delivery from the date of order and it was pretty painless. With that said, it might not be an option for you. Some have taken delivery faster than I did... so it still could be an option.

As far as the mileage, I've owned all three motors, 5.3L, 6.0L and now the 6.2L. Quite frankly the mileage isn't a whole lot different between them.

My 03 5.3L with 4.10 gears was lifted with 35" tires, mileage was still 14-15mpg city and 17-18 highway. Prior to the lift I was getting 16-17mpg city and 19-20mpg highway.

My 07 6.0L, with 4.10 gears, mileage was 14-15 city and 17-18 highway

My 11 6.2L, with 3.73 gears, mileage is 13-14 city and 17-18 highway. With the 3.42's, guys are reporting about 1-2mpg better than the 3.73's.

Thats been my experiance in my area and driving habits. Not much different really.

On my 6.2, If I granny it, I can get 16-18 mpg in the city and 22-23 on the highway. I have added arh headers, airaid cai, bb tune, and big body magnaflow so it has really improved the performance and gas mileage over stock. This is with 3:42 gears.
