Couldn't find the answer in the search....

What is the expected amount of oil the 2008 AFM engine uses between a 3000 mile oil change? Should it be 0,1 qt? Do they a fix?

Thanks

I'd expect ZERO ... since I have owned cars 40 years old, costing 1/10th what the new trucks cost, that used that amount. Just sayin'...

GM says 1 qt per 2000 miles is normal and no repairs are needed.

Oil consumption can be directly related to the quality of oil you use. NOACK spec's say the oil companies only have to meet 15% volatility. In others words, its perfectly accpetabale if 15% of the oil boils off during engine operations.

NOACK Volatility

ASTM D5800 - 08 Standard Test Method for Evaporation Loss of Lubricating Oils by the NOACK Method

NOACK volatility determines the evaporative loss of engine oils. This test is important because the operating temperatures of an engine will typically drive off the lighter ends of a lubricant while in service. This effectively results in pushing the viscosity of the lubricant to a more viscous level (up) and, as a result, fuel economy goes down due to an increase in parasitic load.

The evaporation loss is of particular importance in engine lubrication. Where high temperatures occur, portions of an oil can evaporate. Evaporation may contribute to oil consumption in an engine and can lead to a change in the properties of an oil.

I agree that the amount of usage GM considers normal is insane. No way yo ushould be "using" that much oil.....If you are using oil, try another brand maybe? I run Mobil 1 and don't have any issues. Same goes for 08 V-Max, Royal Purple and not a drop used between changes.
