Mt 1991 with 330,000+ miles is still going strong.... did have to install a GM trans (700r4) at 264000... Valve covers have never been off though..

expect the engine/tranny to last 200,000 while keeping up on maintenance and not "driving it like you stole it". there is a reason they warranty the powertrain for 100,000 miles.

they first introduced these vortec engines in the GMT800s and i have a friend that has a 2000 with 250,000 with the original engine and tranny and no major problems. my dad has a 2004 with 175,000 and the only thing he's had to do to it is change the fluids, normal wear and tear items, fix his a/c, and replace the gauge cluster internals.

and if you read things about crappy service/unreliable parts, it is usually blown out of proportion. i mean who would start a thread titled "my truck has 200,000 miles and no problems". people only post when they have problems so that they can get them resolved or just rant about it.

depends on maintnence, how you drive, sometimes parts just break on their own, whether the part has 15,000 miles or 150,000 miles.

I had a 1990 Chevy K2500, When I gave it to a family member in the fall of 2010 it had 203,000 miles on it. It was used for plowing over 15 years, the transmission went at 175,000 miles, still has origional motor. Must have close to 240,000 on it by now.

vortec was out long before the gmt-800s....its all about taking care of your ride..the people that drive balls to the wall all day everyday with minimal maintaince are the guys that will have a vehicle that won't last..oil changes alone don't keep a vehicle alive
