Anyone using Mobil 1 OW-30 oil?

I am thinking about trying Mobil 1 0W-30 oil next winter in my new 2011 2500 HD, equipped with the 6.0 Vortec. Theoretically at least it should work well in the cold and might even give slightly better fuel economy. What are everyone's thoughts on 0W-30 oil? Thanks

What does your owners manual say? Is it Dexos approved?

What are your "cold night" temps?

Don't know why you would think that your mpg would increase? Once your engine is up to temperature, it's the same oil as 5W30. I would not run anything other than what is approved for your truck. I'm not sure that the 0W has the Dexos license?

There is not much of a difference/benefit of going with the 0w over the 5w according to the Mobil1 spec sheet.

I've been running it in my 08 LY5 for the past few changes. I used to run the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5W-30 that is no longer made. The 0W-30 AFE meets GM 6094M which is what my warranty calls for. I would just run the regular M1 5W-30 since your warranty calls for a Dexos oil. Looking at the specs of both oils, they are very very similar.

I switched over to it at 3K miles on mine. It's supposed to have better lubrication on cold starts and meets the same specs as the 5w-30 requirments. I do not know if it meets the Dexos licensing though, never paid any attention to that since my truck is a 2010 :P

I used it as a "winter" oil, which is what is recommended in my '00 owner manual for temps that are -20F and colder. Recently switched to the made in Germany Castrol Syntec 0W-30, but it IS thicker in cold temps than the M1 0W-30

The Amsoil 5W-30 is excellent, but very expensive. I have priority for cold temp oil flow, as I can't always plug in at work sites.I must be doing something right after 12 years

Where does is say you MUST use dexos approved oil? I don't read that.

Use only engine oil that is approved to the dexos specification or an equivalent engine oil of the appropriate viscosity grade.

Cold Temperature Operation: In an

area of extreme cold, where the

temperature falls below ?29°C

(?20°F), an SAE 0W-30 oil

should be used. An oil of this

viscosity grade will provide easier

cold starting for the engine at

extremely low temperatures.

I use 0W-40 Mobil 1 in my 09 SRT8 Challenger but thats what it come with from the factory.

I also plan on using Mobile 1 in my 2011 Silverado when its time.
