GMPP extended warranty

I was happy with my GM extended warrant on my 02 Duramax. 8 injectors and a fuel pump on the first bill coulda cost me $8000, then another 16 injectors through the life of the warranty. I got it on my 09 gasser as well. 2G's on 60 is cheap insurance imo.

That Major Gard (or whatever it's called) covers just about everyhting other than shocks and brakes. I plan on getting it before my 3yr/36K expires.

It does not cover interior trim components and it does not cover any water leaks (as in rain water leaks) if the truck has any, even from a bad seal/gasket, doors, sunroof or as in my case a bad trunk seal. There is a list of items it does not cover but I can't remember all of them. I know this from the Bonnie I had. It had a lot of issues, some I had to fix and some I had to pay out of pocket to get fixed because even though this warranty is as good as it is it does not cover as much stuff as a new bumper to bumper warranty does.

Had a GMPP on my 2004 Yukon and never used it in 80,000 miles. Traded the 2004 on our 2008 Yukon and didn't buy one.

Had a GMPP on my 2006 Silverado and used it once. Engine light came on and I took it in to the dealer. They said the filter on the fuel tank inlet was clogged and fixed it and charged me $100 and I was out the door. They didn't tell me what it cost, but it couldn't have too much. I traded the 2006 on my 2011 Silverado and didn't buy one for it.

I sure never got my moneys worth out of them.

it was a complete waste on my 2003 Silverado, I skipped it on my 2009 Sierra. So far so good. I paid off my truck at right around 2 yrs old, I figure with no note I shouldn't have an issue coming up with money to fix it if something goes wrong.

I agree with you 110%. Regarding your last sentence though... I have unfortunately uttered the same or similar words about a couple of money matters in the past couple of years, only to have fate (or a son in college) come along and show me just how wrong I could be about financial security. It is a good philosophy though.

I got it on mine so we'll see by the end of it if I've save less or more then what I paid for it. I know my dad has gotten it on a couple of his cars and was definitely worth it. Typically it was due to electronics issues.

I had a manual lumbar support go in my seat recently that was worth just over $500 and it was covered. Stereo issue was also resolved with a warranty covered replacement.

You can get discount priced Major Guard from James E Black Cadillac. My 09 sierra 4x4 was around $1,000 for 36/36,000 added on now with 35,000 on the truck. My dealer here wanted $1,500. They are legit. Check them out here ( I talked to Jean, she was very helpful and answered all questions):

+1 Although I've never purchased a GMPP from them, this dealer has been mentioned MANY times through the years as "the place" to buy warranty if you want to save some money. I did check with them when I bought on my 2004 Silverado, and they were less money, but my local dealer matched their price. One advantage to going with Black Cadillac is that unless you live in PA, you do not pay sales tax on the purchase. If you decided to do the warranty at least price it with this dealership...might save a few $$$$.

I not saying the above mentioned warranty website isn't legit - but the website looks like it was designed by a first grader. A third grader would have done a bettter job...just saying.

^ yep, web site is strange. But for at least 1/3 off major guard local dealer prices (full retail) it looks good...Asked my dealer if he wanted to match and said no. I guess they make money on volume as they said they make money at this price and my dealer could too??

It is a real crap shoot. At age 64, I have never bought an extended warranty on anything, and really never regretted it. If the cost is $1500, I would say you can do a lot of repairs for that kind o f money and be money ahead. The newer GM trucks are bullet proof in most cases, though some little PITA things certainly occur.

I am a pretty good mechanic, so I do most everything myself....save all the labor costs. If you cannot do the work yourself, labor is expensive. A rear axle seal costs about $12, and $400 to install at a dealership.

I figure that I have saved enough by NOT buying extended warranties to pay for my last truck...ha.

If the truck still has a power train warranty, that is the most important. It takes care of the engine and tranny, and allows you to get to work....if the A/C goes out or a power window motor craps out, it is a pain, but NOT essential to driving the vehicle.

Now, having said all of that, I bought a high mileage Escalade last summer. I did buy the extended warranty because of all of the sensors, motors, navigation system, heated seats, and on and on and on. Within a month, the A/C condensor went out. I paid $100 and the dealer's bill was over $1000. Then the air ride compressor went out, and the dealer replaced it for $100...the actual bill was close to $700.

Had I done the work myself, the condensor costs $200 and the compressor is about $150, but I did not have to get dirty...I did pay $200, and really would have only been out another $150.

Not the bad news....you have to be careful about what is not covered....any "wear item" is not covered. This includes brake pads, light bulbs, shocks, etc.

SO, my rear air/electronic socks started to leak....went to the dealer, and since they are considered "wear items", they are not covered. The dealer said it would cost $1300 to replace them plus labor.

SWELL....I bought a set of Monroe replacement air/electronic shocks for $900, and that included both front and rear....install took about an hour. Truck rides super, now, but I wish I haad NOT bought the stupid warranty.

Now, I am out the cost of the warranty, $200 for the deductable, and $900 for the air shocks. What a great deal!

Save your money and buy something you actually need or want. All that extended warranty is is basically a money maker.....You don't need it.

+1 on that.

I had an '05 -4Runner that I traded for the Silverado. Bought it with 5,000 miles on it (dealer demo) and bought the extended warranty. That thing was LOADED with electronics (yaw control-anti-lock brakes, stablizer control, hill holder,etc.,etc.,) and in the six years I owned it it was about a push on what went wrong and what the warranty covered.

I will purchase one for the SIlverdo. The interior bits are not covered nor are the brakes and shocks. But if you look at what is NOT COVERED it is not a very long list.

The dealer wanted $4000 for extended warranty when I bought my truck last year. I took a chance and skipped it. That's a lot of money in repair and going to the dealer is a PITA. I have a couple of good local garages that take of vehicles out of warranty.
