Camaro 2SS

I'm thinking about puliing the trigger on a 2012 2SS Camaro but trying to decide between the 6 speed with Hurst short throw shifter or the automatic transmission. The automatics have AFM, which I can disable with a tune via the AutoCal but I'm curious if any members have the SS Camaro in the manual and have gotten a tune and what improvements they might have seen. Any insight is appreciated.

Car is for the wife but I'll be driving it a lot and prefer the Hurst short throw six speed manual!!!!

I have the auto. I plan on tuning off afm one day.

I tried sending you a PM and it wouldn't accept it. I thought I had read where you bought a Camaro. Selling dealer says they don't think it goes into AFM much, if at all being that you'll have your foot in it all the time. Not sure i want the different AFM components, plus the Hurst short throw sure makes it a lot more fun driving since I haven't had a manual trans since I got rid of the 1995 Mustang GT with the last of the 302 V8s when the first kid came along. That was a sad day.

FYI the auto has paddle shifters so you can drive it like a manual. It doesnt go into AFM much, I just dont like the audible exhaust note it lets off. I heard it is due to something in the exhaust (springs to baffle the noise?). I have some flowmasters to put on (axleback) and I am going to see how it sounds after that.

Here is mine

I'll have to check out the paddle shift feature. I haven't driven the automatic yet.

Is that Ashen Gray Metallic or Black? Good looking Camaro. Convertible does me no good in Houston since I could oly use it in Nov-Feb, maybe. Thanks for the info.

If I were buying one I would go with the Manual Trans, but only because it doesn't have AFM. If not for that I would go Automatic myself, but hey Im not buying it so get what makes you happy!

For what it's worth you also give up like 20 HP on the automatic model- 403 vs 423 I think. Not much of a difference but food for thought.

Auto trans has 400 hp with a 3.27 rear-end and the manual trans has 426 hp with a 3.45 rear-end.

Maybe the Blackbear tune can help. Still waiting on reply from Justin on his experience with tunes on manual trans versus auto trans Camaros.

I'm sure you can and regardless 400HP is nothing to sneeze at anyhow. I so wish I could swing a second payment right now. The truck can't be traded in but I really want a Camaro.

I had the auto and didn' mind since i was driving 90 miles a day and it was mostly stop and go traffic. If it was my weekend warrior I probaly would have bought a manual transmission but I drove it daily. Then the baby came and the house came so it had to go. Sad day.

I just added a carseat (adding #2 soon). My son loves riding in the car. He stated to me (mind you he is 2.5) the other day "Daddy that is my camaro car"

Can't help with the Camaro, but I just sold my 12 mustang gt with the 6 speed manual. Wouldn't have bought the car any other way. I loved it, the performance the car was built with in mind demanded the manual in my opinion. Girlfriend however didn't like driving it in traffic. To much clutching/shifting for her. Just meant that I was pretty much the only driver. :)

Sounds to me that is a good thing. My wife didn't drive a stick shift until we met and got married and I had a 1989 LX 5.0 Mustang which later became the 1995 GT with the 5.0 and 5 speed. This will be her Camaro because I want the Shelby GT 500 when I retire (if they are still making them). She had a 1989 Camaro RS with the 305 when we met and got married, and that was in 1991/1992.
