Trading 08 Tahoe for 06 Silverado--Good deal?

My father in law has an 11 or 12 Equinox 4cyl AWD, he loves it. His only gripe is it is a bit underpowered when the family is in it more or less on hills. He took a bit of convincing to get AWD for him he always had RWD trucks and finally admitted he was pleased with the AWD.

My fiance, and I test drove one over a year ago now with the 3.0, and it runs great! V6 and AWD would be the only way we would buy one.

We bought a 2012 fwd 4cyl 'Nox last Oct, and have been pretty happy with it. Have just over 10k on it now, and the last trip to Northern Mi ( Flint area to Mackinac City ) we averaged about 29mpg. Wife was set on the 4cyl, and we figured we have the truck if the weather gets bad.

Well a little update. I went and looked at the 06 silverado and it was scratched and dinged up pretty bad. Not something I could live with. Than I found some other 06 trucks and went and test drove them and wasn't as happy with them as I am with the GMT900 trucks. So my search now is for a GMT900 truck. Tomorrow I am going to check out an 08 Silverado ext cab z71 LTZ with 56K miles and they are asking $23K for it. If that checks out I going to have the find a 2012 Equinox 2LT FWD 2.4L in the Ashern Gray Metallic. My wife saw that color today and loves it so we got to get that when we get one.

Ok another update. Went and looked at the 08 Silverado today and I really like it and it has all the options I want. I only see a few paint issue areas but I can fix them with no problem. The interior from what I could see looks really good. Leather looks great and the dash and stuff looks like there is no wear. Also it has a leveling kit already on it.

My question could someone please run a build sheet on it please. The vin is 2GCEK190981224456

Today I stripped the Tahoe of most of the things I would keep to transfer over to a new truck just incase. Only thing I would have to take out now is the Edge programmer.

Depends on what your towing of course. I would prefer lower gears for towing but I always do. If you aren't towing anything substantial than I'd say your good to go. Sounds like a nice truck.

Not a nice truck!! Plus they only offered me $26000 when the trade in bluebook value is $30K. I clearly said NO and told them to give me what I wanted or I was leaving. They tried to keep my keys so I couldn't leave but before they were giving me numbers I told them I want my keys before we even start dealing. Ended up just walking out.

Dang, sorry man. I'm soooo glad I found this truck as I am sick of "wheeling and dealing" game at the dealership. I used to trade vehicles constantly in my younger "I don't know what I want" age, but the game got so dang old. Glad you didn't settle and walked out when it all went sour. Last time that happened to me is when I walked out on a Ram "deal" and got my old GMC Sonoma back in '04. When I was ready to trade that one up I went back to the same dealership family and got my Sierra. They already had the deal on the window so no games just the usual signing my life away and still driving happy. Hope you find a good truck and deal real soon.

Well I struck a deal tonight. I got an 07 GMC Sierra crewcab gray color with matching cap it is the SLE but has a few add on options. And got the 2012 Equinox 2lt in the Ashen gray metallic for my wife. They gave me what I wanted for both the Tahoe and the Malibu and even gave me some accessories for the Equinox. I did really well in my option. Plus they gave me $4K less than I paid for the Tahoe almost 2 years ago. Not too bad IMO. The only problem is I have not seen the Truck in person yet but from the pictures they have it looks in excellent condition. They should have it tomorrow but they are going to look over it again for me and then Thursday if it looks like the truck I want I will be buying it and bringing it home thursday night.

    • I was around and remember that era very well, so I'm calling b/s on that statement. If they were that bad no police department or taxi company would've bought a single one ... but they were used in both services (and fire) for DECADES. They were bulletproof and proven. Even the early 21st century ones weren't too bad! The early models were legendary.   Mine is proof, but people like atlas are blinded by agenda and refuse to believe facts right before their very eyes.   Even decades after they were built, a new generation started driving them, posting all their builds and shenanigans on Grandmarq.net and Crownvic.net. The failures would show up then, since they all were deep past 100k-150k miles by that point, and younger drivers tend to be a little aggressive, especially with vehicles than can lay a one-tire fire for as long as you hold your foot in it. They've more than proven themselves over the decades.   The only thing that'll really take them out is road salt. The bodies and sheet metal were garbage. A victim of the cheapout FoMoCo and GM have been partaking in before then, and since.   Today it's the stuff that counts - the undercarriage that rots away first!    GMs Caprice was no slouch either. Reliable as a stone ax - the opposite of what they build now.
    • Let me know how your vehicles do in 10 years. You don't know ******, kid. 😂    There's a reason that Panther platform was used as police, fire, and taxi service for DECADES ... long before you were born, apparently.
    • If your connector also has a big lever to get the connector on and off, you don't want to force the lever either way, as it becomes a bigger problem if you bust the lever or the mechanism it works.
    • It's just useful to disconnect the battery to prevent odd shorting out when unplugging/plugging stuff together.  I also  touch the two cable ends together (after disonnecting) to drain the small amount of stored battery energy in various modules.   I believe the main system where you need to be more concerned with, so you need to do the above and then wait some time, iss when you are working on the air bag system, to prevent inadvertent firing of the air bags.   The in-cab switches are just that, plain switches, it's generally not a problem to swap them in/out.  For my '12, I'll get an error message on the dash if I power up the truck w them unplugged, but that's it (power up= turn the ignition on).   The ITBC located above the spare tire is a computer that manages the trailer brake system.  That is probably more important to have the battery disconnected.  It does have to be programmed to the truck, either before or after it's installed, for it to work.  For my '12, I had a very hard time reinstalling the main connector to it (IDK if yours is the same or not), it turned out the silicon seal was jamming up, preventing it from going on all the way.  I finally got it fully installed by lubing the seal with a bit of dielectric grease, then it slid on and latched in place easily.
    • JR ! I just got the truck back from the Dealership today . The technician did a cold remote start on the truck this morning and it made the noise . It was determined that it was a starter issue and replaced it under warranty . Of course   it did not make the sound after a new starter was put in because the truck was not cold . We will we see what happens tomorrow morning when I start the truck cold  . Keep tuned !   Oh I found a video on YouTube of a cold start and it did the same thing your truck and mine do , I will see if I can find it and post it up
