Bout that time....

So with my 285 70 17 mastercraft AT's having about 5k left on them it's time to start thinking about new tires. Just for kicks I took my spare out and compared the 2 sizes and I just don't see enough difference to justify the cost of the 285's so I'm looking to go back to an LT 265 70 17. I'm also looking to go to an HT tire. With that said I've narrowed it down to three choices.

The maxxis bravo 750

Maxxis bravo 770

And cooper discoverer H/T

Does anyone here have any experience with any of the above tires? They seem to be readily available in my area so that's a plus. I ran some maxxis buckshots on my old truck for a while and I was very happy overall with them. I've also read that my mastercrafts are made by cooper and I've had good luck with them other than they're now louder than the buckshots now that they're worn out lol. So I've had good luck with both companies. I'm just looking for some input on the above tread types. Thanks in advance.

i dont have experience with the maxxis tires, but i know the coopers are great tires. i personally like my firestone destination A/T's, the are very durable and so far they are showing very little wear and i got them in 285/70/17 for 750 out the door

I don't have an opinion, just a question. How many miles do you have on those Mastercrafts. So far I've got 30k miles but I dont see them getting 65k like my factory Bridgestone's got. Need an idea of how long I might have left.

If memory serves, I put them on at 105k and I now have 151k. So about 46k. I may be able to get 10k more but I think the inspection station may shut me down in about 5k lol. These are the AT 2's by the way.

Awesome, I'm hoping to get 50k miles out of mine (AT 2, as well) but it might be close. If I quit off roading (intentionally or otherwise) they would last but what fun is that???

Haha not much fun. I've pretty much quit since I moved to the city, which is why I'm goin to some ht's. I also keep a close eye on my pressures and rotate every 8-12k or so. I wore a $600 set of general grabber AT's out in high school because I didn't pay attention to the pressures. Expensive lesson learned lol.

Yeah, I'm always watching the tires, something my mother taught me. I still break stuff, dad taught me that, but I fix it...unlike my dad.

I have the Cooper Discoverer HT plus tires, I love them. Prior I had a 265/75R16 Firestone Destination AT and They were ok, they didn't last long. The ride with the Coopers is a lot better, No road noise, my MPG went up a little and I went from a 265/75R16 to a 275/55R20XL

That's good to hear, I was looking at firestones but I've heard they just don't last. I also just checked coopers website and the HT seems to only come in a load range E. Can anyone recommend a load range C tire? I had some 265/70/17 BFG AT that we're load range C on this truck a few years ago and they seemed to be a good match for my 1/2 ton.

Yea, I have the HT plus which is an XL rated P tire. But the HT plus is for SUV or 20" or bigger I think. They do make the regular HT in a P I believe. I don't know all the load ratings though

I guess the HT plus is out lol. Everything I've read about p metric tires leads me to believe that's not what I need. I'm looking for an LT in a load range C flavor. But when I search LT on coopers site all I get is load range E. I have load range D now and they're a bit much lol.

Recently hauled a Toyota pickup from SC to NC, 100 miles one way on a 3000 pound equipment trailer. Don't do that everyday of course, but I like an extra margin of safety. Lookin for a four wheeler for the wife so ill be haulin two full size ATV's on a utility trailer. The only reason I'm running D's right now is that's all that was available in a 285. I've also read that LT's have deeper tread than P's, so in theory they should last longer. I guess I've just always had LT's and I like to stick with what works. If someone can make a good case for the P's I would consider those, as they are a good bit cheaper. Sorry for the long response lol.
