That was always one of my biggest fears when I had my 'Vette. I don't understand why he didn't try to steer out of that, as he had passed the car on his right and had the room to do it.

That deer was moving from right to left at a good clip; there was room for the driver to steer to the right, as he was on the left side of the course.

Pretty sure the driver didnt have much if any time to react to the deer, let alone steer out of the way. Driver was already full on breaking for the upcoming turn.

 

"I didn't see him until he hit asphalt and already turned the braking all the way up to "whoaaaaaa" for turn 1 so I was toast!" said the shaken Corvette driver.

That's how people get killed on the highway. Don't attempt to steer out of the way and roll your vehicle over. Smash the deer and get your vehicle fixed.

No way with the speed of that car should he have tried to steer around it. Guess you never drove a race car?
