JF1957 Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 My God, its been a long time writing on this forum couldn't remember my password, this site is all changed. My 2004 Yukon XL is begining having rust spot here and there so i was wandering to repaint it or change it ? The fact is that my truck got the huge 8.1 L that i love so much. The truck have 105 K miles on it and i'm only using it about 5 K miles a year, are those motors last long on miles ? Regards
8.1HD/ALLISON Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 If its been taken care of you should have many more miles to come.
Tucson_02Silverado Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 105K, it's still a baby 5K a year, doesn't really make sense to be spending >$45K for a new one. A really nice paint job should be around $3K-$5K. Of course it all depends on the amount of bodywork, paint type and if you want to stay black and want it "glass" smooth.
JF1957 Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 Well yes i'll stay in black, what is that glass smooth your talking about ? Is it like the original look ? Regards
zogg Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I had an 8.1 several years ago....it always used a quart of oil every 1400 miles, but I loved the truck. I would love to have another one, and should have kept what I had....nothing pulls like an 8.1 except for a diesel. I had 140,000 miles on mine and it ran like a top...if you have the Allison tranny, you should be good for another 100K miles. I would fix the body and get a re-paint......if it cost $4000, it would only be the equivalent of about 8 payments on a new truck...
Carder09 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Damn, are these paint jobs including sanding, prep, body work, etc??? That def seems like a custom paint job from the frame up!
unit731 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 If you like the truck then keep it. Painting it will bring it back to looking new. But you still have to address the causes of the rust or it will rust again. Up here we use hot oil undercoating. Every year. About $85.00. It is messy for the first 3 weeks after. My 1992 Grand Marquis has zero rust. There's nothing like a new truck but after visiting a few dealers this spring - most are quite expensive. If you can pay cash that is one thing. If you take payments - those payments get old after awhile. I think that this is the last year of the current model or next year. There may be some great deals come fall. Not sure when the new truck is coming. 2013 or 2014.
jBlaze3000 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I say repaint it and show us the before and after pics.
