2013 - Some truck ordering restrictions

About 7? weeks or so ago I went into my dealer and told them that I wanted to give up my Duramax because I didn't need it because we decided to get a motorhome instead of a 5th wheel and with another child on the way I needed a truck that can seat 6.

So, I told them what I wanted and we sat down in front of the computer and he started clicking boxes. Options that I wanted started giving him error messages, some of my options aren't available with others. Which I wasn't happy about. Options below are what I wanted:

LT

6.2

WEA

22 inch rims

Summit white

trailer brake controller

leather 40/20/40 front bench

Anyway I told them I prefered to look at a Ford because I eally wasn't excited about the stupid short short GM 1/2 ton box, and without the options I wanted I was turned off. I really wanted the 22 inch rims that match my wifes suburban's rims, and that ment I couldn't get the WEA and the 6.2.

Sales guy called his regional? rep and asked why I couldn't order what I wanted. He said he had to look into it. 1 week later the dealer said they had a couple of solutions.

1. Order the truck without 22's, and put them on when it gets here, but instead of a $2700 upgrade, it would be 4k and no warranty on the rims or the front end if they determine the rims caused it. - I said no way

2. Work with a mexican dealer and it can be ordered exactly the way I want it with no restrictions, if GM approves it, and it gets built out of Silao, Mexico. The truck would be ordered as I request, but it will be badged a "Cheyenne" and will not come with z71 stickers, which all can be fixed at the dealer. No one knows if the cluster will have to be changed or if it will come in MPH. And it will take 3 months to get this done from start to delivery. - I said yes.

Order was submitted by email, not the GM website and was sent to be built in Mexico. I was told one of the determining factors for approval was that this was my 4th new GM purchase in the last 12 months.

Now, If any of you have ever looked at the chevrolet.com.mx site, you can see just how fricking cool those "Cheyenne" trucks are. What is even funnier, is that the Silverado's down there are work trucks. Makes me laugh. So anyway, after some thought, I think the new truck will remain unchanged. No rebadging.

What would you think if you saw a "Cheyenne" 1/2 ton 2013 rolling around? I would laugh if I saw it.

It has been faster than 3 months, The truck should be here next week. I'm excited... And pics will be posted ASAP right from the showroom floor. yay!

One of the reasons I have migrated away from GM (except the truck) is their stupid ordering restrictions and packages. One of my biggest pet peeves with GM and this goes clear back to the 60s is if you order an automatic, you can't get the same hp engine as a stick. One of the reasons I didn't get a new Camaro.

Glad you were able to work around it and get what you want!

The Camaro is because it has a different engine to meet CAFE regs. And I doubt you'd notice 20 hp when you already have 400. Besides even with the power "loss" the auto will be faster in the real world.

I understand but my point being GM has always done this and the other manufacturers do not. GM is and always has been too "nannyish". In 1960s there were no CAFE regs or anything else, and they still did it. I'm a 40 year GM owner so I'm not just bashing them as a fan boy of another brand. As for the 20HP not mattering, tell that to the guys who spend a bunch of money on tunes and such to get less.

My 69 GP 428, is an auto and somehow was built with the 390 hp code engine instead of the 370 HP code engine the autos were supposed to have. So apparently they had no technical basis for their restrictions.

Tunes aren't about gaining power and more about minimizing things like torque management and making ignition tables more aggressive to take advantage of premium and such. As for what GM did in the 60s, I can't comment as I wasn't born till 1984.

We've hijacked the thread too much so I'll stop but "making ignition tables more aggressive to take advantage of premium" is exactly to make more power! Good discussion.

Just order the "Denali" package, and you will get everything you want and more.

I look forward to seeing pix of your new truck!! I think it is cool that you will have a differently labeled truck.

This makes absolutely no sense. As long as it is dealer installed it is covered by the warranty. It is no different than the side steps or protections package I had put on (mudflaps, tailgate caps, and rear wheel well guards)

No, because the GM says that the 6.2 can't come with them, or the Z71. In sure the dealer could pass waranty work through Thr system, but if they ever got cought I guess it's s big deal.

This maybe true of the pickup truck, I was able to order a second row bench (60/40) seat on my Yukon Denali.
