Gasser with 400+ lb/ft

Good luck finding an '07 with an 8.1L. I tried to buy such a truck new in November of 2006, and GM had already stopped offering the 8.1L..

The 2008 and newer HD's with the VVT 6.0L and the 6L90 transmission have plenty of power.

If you want to wait, the 2014 HD's are rumored to have something even more powerful.

X2 on the 2008 and newer. I had an 08 2500hd with 6.0 and 4:10 axle and now have a 2012 with the same drive train. The 2012 is even better than the 08. I pull a 12k lb fifth Wheel with no problem. I too only tow about 10 weekend trips per year so the gasser suits me fine.

There is still speculation in what gasser will be going into the next generation, but from what I have read it will likely remain a cast iron block. This would rule out the 6.2 aluminum block currently in the 1/2 tons.

I've seen somewhere on the web ( maybe gmi.com ) a spec sheet from GM that showed 2014 brings us a new HD gas platform- a cylinder deactivated, direct-injected all aluminum 6.2 with 426 HP and 428 lb/ft. If this turns out to be true we are headed in the right direction guys!

And by right direction I mean when my next truck is due we'll have the corvette 7.0 in these trucks! Not that I'm complaining now I love my 6.0 , but that wishfull dreaming makes my heart skip a beat!

Yeah, but the million dollar question is where will that torque number apear in the RPM range.

I don't believe any new gas engine will ever be made to rev low anymore like the old days. They make way more power nowadays and are happy to rev high to do it. It's not a bad thing- it's technology and we have to get used to it. When is the last time you heard a low reving race car?

True but I'd prefer to have more torque available when I first hit the gas to move my load vs reving just to get things started. Just my opinion.

X2

Racing and towing really cant be compared to one another. Im not going to hit full throttle with a high stall converter to try to take off with 10K lbs behind me. im going to tend to do like most people and conmfortably apply throttle until i reach my desired speed.

I always thought my old 5.7 towed better than the 6.0 I had just because it made more tq at 2500 rpm, which is where I tended to drive. However, I realise that after that, the 5.7 pretty much fell off , while the 6.0 kept on pulling until it reached its peak at 4500 RPM.

Maybe Im just too much of an old timer (IM only 27). Ive often been told that Im old beyond my years.

well being wise beyond your age is a good thing though. I can see where it is you are hung up and probably can't help much more in your decision, but maybe my advise could be to just here out people like therink who have experience moving the kind of weight you need to with this set-up. Good luck and have fun truck hunting.

The 6.0L/4.10 combo tows just fine. I have two at work, granted they are 1 ton cab and chassis, but I tow around 12,000+ lbs on a daily basis and they do just fine. They do love to rev though, ecspecially in hill areas.
