Oil?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a brand/type of oil for their 1500?

 

Its about time to change the oil and wanted to know if there are any brands that are better for the truck.

Brand of oil is like asking what station to get gas from.. Everyone has their favorite. I use Mobil 1 and sometimes Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. I change by 5k miles or before.

If your gonna be changing every 5000 miles save some money and just use conventional.

I use Mobil 1, supposedly is better at holding viscosity with temp change. Anything works though. I change ~5000k

Don't overthink it, any name brand conventional or synthetic of the correct vicosity is fine. My preference is castrol 5-30 conventional. I'm not falling to the dexos hype.

Like others have stated, if you are going to be changing it out every 5k miles then any of the conventional 5w-30 oils, Pennzoil, Valvoline, Quaker State, Castrol and Mobil will work just fine.

 

If you live in an extreme cold climate during the winter then a synthetic would give you a little edge on protection on start up. Oil has come a long way from 10 years ago.

I use Castro gtx 5w30 because it's pure petroleum

Quaker state ultimate durability is a good synthetic oil and its very affordable at Walmart

And it meets the darn dexos spec

I use Royal Purple (synthetic) 5w30, and Mobil 1 ext. performance synthetic 5w30.in my vehicles.

I'm sure everyone is correct in what they are saying so for just my opinion-

I switched to castrol syntec dexos, will probably change oil every 7-8K and will keep it that way. Probably don't need synthetic but for a little more it just feels better!
