Sierra Down, but not forgotten....

A good accident is one where you all walk away, and thank your god you were not in a smart car.

I wouldn't worry about the repairs if you have it done by a good shop. A friend of mine does body work and I've seen cars come out better than new after coming in looking destroyed.

Glad to hear that you and your family are alright.

I am not an expert, and by looking at your pictures, I would say the vehicle is totalled. If your firewall is buckled, you do not want the vehicle repaired, for there is extensive frame damage.

In the U.S. most insurance companies consider the vehicle "totalled" if the air bags deploy.

Replacing a vehicle can be done, replacing a life can not.

Glad you're all OK; that's the important thing. But damn, man, just when you got it to stop using oil!

As others have already said glad everyone walked away from that one....

I would start getting a fix on the fair market value of your Sierra now. Start looking for a 2013 replacement too, to compare #'s against. I feel your truck is "totaled". :nonod:

Hopefully the other guy has State Farm insurance & not some "micky mouse" company too....

what a shame, good looking truck. if i were in an accident to this severity i'd probably be hoping for a totaled assessment. start over fresh.

If you have a reputable insurance company, go through your insurance to handle the claim, even if the other party is 100% at fault, that way you will get your payment from them, the case will go through "subribation", and your insurance company will get their money from the other company.

Good news, you survived, and the truck "crumpled" as it is designed to do. My opinion, it will be a total loss. If they do repair, make sure you ask about "diminished value", as it will not be worth much for a trade in later with documented repairs being associated with the title. It always sucks to have this happen, but it may have a silver lining if you were wanting a new truck.

Very true, however MOST insurance companies do not give dimished value, the problem is that after that extensive of a repair, most states require a "salvaged titile to be issued. Take the vehicle to a collision shop OF YOUR CHOICE, and tell them that "you do not want the vehcile to be repaired, you want it stucturally totalled". Any decent shop will comply with your request. When the insurance agent goes to the shop to inspect the vehicle, the shop SHOULD tell them "in their opinion, the vehicle can not be PROPERLY repaired, and they cannot warrenty the work."

The bottom line is, if the vehicle is repaired, is it safe enough for my family and myself to drive?

GOOD LUCK!!, do not let the insurance company snow you.

I am glad that you are able to walk away from that accident!! People can't get replaced, trucks can. I am sorry to hear about your truck!

I thought there is only one car insurance in BC, Canada?!

ICBC.

Sorry about your truck. But you're ok. That's important.

Correct, in BC there is only one primary insurance company, ICBC.

And yes, they are dealing with all the details. They have already assessed the other driver 100% at fault. They are having the truck towed to their yard on Monday, and will hopefully get in touch with me Tuesday regarding the decision. With what is damaged, fixing it would make the truck worth nothing in resale value, so yes, I am hoping they will assess it a write off.

I've printed out some ads of the same year SLTs as to replacement value. So if they do write it off, the next point of contention is what they're going to give me for it.
