What truck to get. Need Help

I am looking at buying my first truck and I think I have a tough decision to make.

The first option:

1996 gmc 1500

40% tread left on tires

exhaust

hood scoops

very little rust

182k

$3,500 b/o

 

2nd option

1999 chevy 1500

pretty new tires

all stock

195k

rusted out wheel wells

$2,900

 

any imput is appreciated

Yeah there are better deals out there. A friend of mine just bought a 95 ext cab Z71 with 170,000 miles with new reman'ed tranny and little to no rust, paint fair shape, interior not quite mint but good, and he gave 5K. A little high but still those trucks in good body condition are starting to get a little more valuable.

Honestly the 1999 would go for $5000 here

If they were both 4x4's than both would go for that around here. Even if they weren't they probably still would. Our truck market is ridiculous.

offer anywhere between 1-2k and don't pay more than 2k

The original post left out if either truck is a 4x4 and his location. 4x4's, and if it works, in a northern state would probably sell for that.

Good price for both in your location. Drive both of them, as much as you can. Then decide.

Are they both extended cabs? Is the paint better on one or the other?

 

Personally I would offer a coulpe hundred less and go for the 96 if it has the 5.7. That is a great motor, only problem was the intake manifold gasket but i'm sure that has been replaced by 100k miles. I would get the truck with little or no rust or keep looking.
