Ditching cable/satellite

No regrets here either. I got enough stuff in the Netflix queue to last a lifetime and I can still catch the news from the Lansing stations.

I will jump in here as well. I cancelled my cable TV (ATT Uverse) over a year ago, I was paying over 100/month just for my cable. I don't miss it one bit. I have an air antenna that gives me 30+ channels. I use Comcast and pay 70/month for 30MB+ internet and use netflix streaming, this is the same as I was paying before or close enough. I like the extra 100 bucks a month in my pocket.

I would love to cut the cable. But not possible where I live. With an ota setup I can only get CBS and ABC. Need to have fox in the fall for football. Then throw in the fact that my Internet is only 5 meg download and that's not fast enough for Hulu or Netflix to do hd and I'm basically stuck with dish or directv.

I watch netflix, hulu plus and youtube from my apple tv. It works great. I have been running internet only for about three years now.

Have you tried? I was on wireless internet at 2 mb downlink and we streamed Netflix and Amazon OK. Amazon would warn my speed wasn't enough for 1080P or whatever, but the picture always looked great from both services. Sometimes during storms even if the wireless did not go out, we would get some pixelisation. I would be wondering if your provider is blocking streaming or they have a poor backbone pipe.

I hear ya on the Fox. If I screw around and we lose football, SHE would not be happy....

My place on the US/Can border gets DI*K for free off air channels!

I get a whole 3 of them with no cable/sat. I had a big antenna on the roof BTW.

One from Watertown NY, CKWS from Kingston Ont., and one in french from Quebec !

I am at Time/Warners mercy and Dish or Directv are no cheaper!

My house near Syracuse I have a bundle deal with my land line phone company for

phone, free long distance, DSL, and Dish 200 pkg for $84 bucks month !

My Daytona place I have T/W-Brighthouse phone, cable, phone $125 mth. seasonal tho.

I quit watching cable years ago and I can't convince my dad to get rid of it. I don't stream anything as I just download anything and everything I want. Plus the streaming services selection is a lot less than the interwebs. I'd imagine satellite is pretty useless with all the thunderstorms we get here. Most people I know here don't keep it very long.

Would love to cut the cable as well. Live in a small rural town & antenna would net three channels max. Kind of addicted to the 24/7 news/business channels on cable when home. If there were alternatives for news & live weather 24/7, may have to look into it.

The bad part is with Mediacom, if you cut the cable side, they still charge a $15-$20 per month fee to keep the cable internet in addition the internet price. Additionally, you go to tiered data plans. Currently no caps on that. However cable/internet bill here is $149 every month. :banghead:

News and weather is what the Internet is for. I have a news reporter and weatherman that fits in my pocket.

Obviously everyone is different but with Netflix and Hulu I've been very happy. Add in being able to download the real Top Gear shows to my iPad from iTunes and I'm golden.

I'll keep my interwebz, HD cable with Sports package, HBO, and Cinemax

I don't care about sports and they stopped making movies that were decent years ago.

God I've become an old man and I'm not even 30.

I have problems sleeping, so I need lots of random programming. I watch the HBO and Cinemax On Demand so I can pick the movies I want to watch. jerk.gif
