Injector failure 09 dmax but only 2 failed not all of them

Our 09 gmc

sierra dmax had major engine vibr at 60-65mph and eventually failed on I-10 Sun. GMC thinks 2 injectors failed. I can't understand why just 2 would fail not all of them. GMC has not said yet what if anything they've checked in the fuel system such as pump, filter, or fuel itself. I only got the "engine power reduced" msg and one big puff of thick white smoke at the end so that doesn't give me a clue.

Any thoughts?

Chaulk that one up to poor workmanship, and a manufacturer that needed to save a few pennies. The older D-maxes were notorious for bad injectors. My ol' man's '02 needed injectors at 30k miles, then again at 100k, then again at 190k. Such a great engine, but they had to cheap out on the injectors ....

Now has over 200k. The truck began falling apart about 3 years ago. Nearly every system - cosmetic, mechanical, & electronic - on the truck has failed, including the sheet metal. The front & rear diffs are the only original parts left.

nice rant JS

anywho ,,,OP,dont worry about it ,tight tolerances things happen ,fords to ,you have lots of warranty ,near the end of the warranty you have less confidence ,trade it ,they have gotten better since the early dirtymaxes !!!

unfortunately getting all done is not the way ANY manufacturer does warranty business ,

keep us informed !!

Thx govtech4.

They fixed two, fired it up, found a third bad. They'll fix that one today they said. As u said they said they fix 'em as they fail not before.

My real pblm driving off w/3 fixed not all 6, is that I'm towing an RV so getting towed if another one fails is a royal pita!

I have an 08, so I've followed TheDieselPlace forums. It seems injectors on these have been very reliable over all. That said, they don't like any contamination.

Do you use additives? We run additives in our work truck after a brand new set of injectors was ruined by bad fuel. No injector issues since.

The ones with injector problems that we see at work are usually from contamination. That is across all three brands. Keep your fuel filters changed. And try to buy fuel where they sell alot. It is just the luck of the draw on getting some dirty fuel. An additive is not a bad idea especially if your out traveling buying fuel in places your not used to. Hope they get U fixed quick then relax and enjoy the rest of your trip.

Well we headed to FL Thurs after the Mobile AL dealer fixed three inj. We made it past Pensacola about 30 miles. We're dead again!!! I wonder how many more times it'll happen towing the RV home!

I'd call GM directly, and tell them their policy of replacing only the failed injectors SUCKS. I'd also tell them your buying a Ford next time.
