Sierra Denali 6.0

Maintenance interval are speculative. I use just under 6 liters of oil and change it every 15000 miles or so, which is usually about 2 intervals of the oil life monitor. Oil analysis done and the oil is still technically fine but I just refuse to run it any longer.

But if a person wants a diesel.... which in Alberta you just aren't cool and in fact looked down upon if you don't have one, go ahead and buy what makes you happy in the pants, lol.

I will :)

15000 miles??? Really??

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I'll just go with the 3.73s since the truck will primarily be used as a DD and occasionally tow a few thousand pounds. Now I just have to decide on a color.....black or white.

I have 2011 GMC 2500HD CCSB 4wd 6.0/6sp 3.73 and wish I had ordered it with 4.10 gears. It adds a bunch of towing capacity and allows more comfortable speeds and rpms. For example, at 65mph, my truck will downshift with any slight grade while if it had the 4.10 gears, it would downshift less and only be running a couple hundred rpms faster. The couple hundred rpms gives it just enough more power so it does not need to downshift. I have been told by others that their in town mileage with 4.10 gears is actually better than with 3.73s and with the double over drive in the 6 speed, you still have plenty of gears to run as fast as you would ever want in a pickup...

Yes really, lol. Stuff comes out looking pretty decent still too....... such a shame to change it. Oil doesn't magically last longer in a diesel........ it's an engine, it sees combustion gases and moisture and it degrades over time because of it. Yes I know what GM says..... not like I take much faith nor care what they say as I really don't care what manufacturers rate oil changes on. I don't use bargain basement Walmart brand oil either and like I said, it tests good based upon analysis.

CTS V's make me happy in the pants so I am buying an '11 or '12 Stateside and bringing it back. No coal rolling required, lol.

I always thought it lasted longer because diesel fuel carried less corrosive properties, the engine itself is more efficient, creates less heat and operates at lower rpm. Thus giving you more oil life...

Rollin coal is for idiot cummins owners who don't know how to properly tune a Diesel engine.

Idiot Cummins owners....... Lol. Seen many Duramaxes that smoke like some old POS that needs a pump and injectors. It's not the brand of truck, it's just the mentality of the owner. Brains, diesels and money in this province comes in the 2 of those 3. And the brains part usually isn't the accompanying factor.

That may be what GM's stance on the oil life is........ but like I said, analysis doesn't lie. I would base the oil life more on the requirement of oil for the diesel versus a gas than anything else. I can go further than 23000 kms run time on my oil easily but it's not that expensive, lol.

Ya same, all kinds of smoke no power. On my full out race tune Mine will let off a puff of smoke but soon as the big turbo lights up it cleans right up. My street tune (500hp) it won't smoke even if you try and lug it. Max effort EGT'S won't rise over 1200 if I tried. A Duramax owner blowing smoke may as well have a sign on the back window that says "I use a shitty tuner and I'm an idiot". its a shame that when people see smoke they think power.

I have a shirt that says "smoked a bit, turbo lit and that was it!!" Ahaha

Re : "Rollin Coal"

You can also thank these 'Knuckle Draggers' for helping convince the US EPA to impose strict particulate emissions (diesel particulate filters) on all light & medium duty diesel engines that we are all now paying for and dealing with. Even the small 3 & 4 cylinder diesel engines in tractors are affected. Arghh!!!!!

It has been the EPA's agenda to use regulations to transfer money errr ummm clean the air for the last 15-20 years. Had nothing to do with the knuckle draggers. Remember when diesel was half the price of gas?

As far as 15,000 mile oil change intervals. That is what I went by on a 2007 LBZ Dmax using Schaeffers 7000 synthetic. Had it tested twice & both times the sample came back as continue running. But stuck with that interval & just greased it around 7,500 miles.

Do not remember now how often I changed the air/fuel/spin on trans filters.

Read some testing on the air filters for stock & AC Delco were the best at the time. Ordered the oil/fuel filters through fleetfilters.com, which were WIX/NAPA brand. Go to commercial truck Allison dealers for the spin on trans filters, think they were $8 & some change.

So what did you go with?

What mileage do you 3.73 guys get in the highway?

I got 15.5 on a 950 mile trip around Alaska (150 of the miles were gravel highway), including up and over mountain passes. I averaged 13.1 for the first year of ownership (detailed information below).

2500HD 6.0 3:73

2012-2013

7,058 Miles Driven

537.22 Gallons of gas

13.13 MPG

$2,133.05 Total gas expense

$3.97 Avg per gallon

We bought a 7300 pound travel trailer which was over the max capacity of our Titan. I search and researched and talked to folks at campgrounds and googled reviews, etc., etc., etc.

After several weeks of looking and driving everything under the sun, I boughr my new to me truck yesterday.

We got a 2011 GMC Sierra 4x4 hd 6.0 with the 3.73. I have seen folks with heavier 5 th wheels and tags the have nothing but praise for their GM 6.0. Fords seem to have a lot of issues, and Dodges were worse. The mpg for the 6.0 seems to be at least as good as the other and maybe a little bit better.

It will be my daily driver, so I really did not want the 4.10s. I took every truck for a long test drive on hiway and gravel roads, as I refuse to make a decision based on a 5 minute test drive.

Anyway, the Sierra road way smoother than the Dodges, and the Ford super dutys rode like a battle wagon, especially on rough roads.

So, now I too am a happy camper
