BDS or Rancho 4"

Well guys, I've changed my mind again. My plans was gonna go with a 3" Body Lift. Also, going with the 33" Toyo MT's. But I just bought some N-Fab steps that a price I could not pass up & also Recon Smoked Tail Lights.

The guy I bought the side steps from was like you should do a 4" Suspension Lift, instead of a BL.

I was like yeah that sounds good, but just the money. I could do this save up like 2-5 paychecks & I can do this. That would look so wicked! Especially with the Steps & Tails already being ordered, (Both will be here at the end of the week).

So guys, my question is should I do the SL or stick to the BL?

If I got the SL, I was gonna go with BDS or Rancho. 4". I would do the 6", but I think 33s with a 6" SL, wheels & tires would look to small. I know most of yall will say do the 6", I think the BDS 6" cost like $15 more than their 4". Rancho sells their 4" at like $1,464 with Free Shipping.

BDS sells their 4" at $1,802.

I'm sticking with 33" tires, Toyo MT's.

I can't afford doing 35's & having to regear.

If you have the money to do a SL then I say do it. Just remember to factor in the money to have a shop do it or read through the lift instructions to see how you feel about doing it. I've done my own BL and helped a buddy do his, they are no big deal to do with simple tools in the shop or in the driveway. I've never done a SL but my buddy said his BDS on his HD was kind of a pain in the ass and he did it on a lift in our friend's garage. He said it was a pain dropping the diff, exhaust seemed to be in the way at times, shaving cooling fins, cutting chunks out. Really he said it was more nerve racking than hard, just said he didn't want to do it again for a few years.

Long story short, I vote SL if you have the money and feel like you can tackle it in the driveway. If not then figure 500-750 for install, not sure what your rates are like out there.

A much better kit? I wouldn't say much better, in fact I would say equal.

The Rancho kit has a one piece sub-frame, which is superior to any multiple piece sub frame. Rancho has adjustable shocks, BDS doesn't. BDS has a fox racing coil-over kit, but it's a $4,000 kit by the time you add in all the extras.

Rancho is an OEM supplier to GM. The chances of having warranty work declined because of a Rancho lift are much less likely because of this.

The BDS 4 inch kit, is just that, 4 inches. It sits too low for 33 inch tires IMO. The Rancho kit offers 5 to 5 1/2'' inches of lift, it is the perfect stance.

Track width. Rancho has 1/4'' less track width increase per side. I know that amounts to only half an inch overall, but I for one despise track width increase, so every little bit counts.

Overall, the perfect stance of the Rancho is what persuaded me to go with Rancho over the BDS kit. The 6 inch BDS is too tall for 33's, it looks goofy. The 4 inch isn't enough.

What LazerBlueZ71 said. While the quality of both is second to none, I think the look you are going after would be best achieved with the Rancho "4-inch" setup.

Well, I thought I heard one time the Rancho 4" was like more of a 5". I just want a near perfect stance with 33's.

I don't think my wheels would stick out too much, they're about flushed with the body line now.

Doesn't BDS come with a lifetime warranty?

What shocks should I go with, if I go with the Rancho?

Laser blue is on the money. BDS takes the nod in the warranty department but Rancho is a solid and taller kit. I personally would go the 6" route though. I have seen dozens of dealership outfitted trucks running Fabtech (8") with 33x12.50s on 10" wides, and it looked good. The reason they did this is to avoid any and all rubbing because, you guessed it, 35s on 10" wides will rub. I used to run 5" of lift and my 33s rubbed a little with a conservative wheel. I would've much preferred having 6" at the time.

The Rancho nets you about 5 1/2" of level lift. I have the Rancho RS9000XL adjustable shocks (which were a small upgrade over standard) and like them pretty much. Might go with Bilstein 5100s the next time around just to try something different. The Rancho kit also holds a limited lifetime warranty. I had 33's on stock 17's / stock offset forever until upgrading to 35's over the Fall. I did put 1.5" BORA spacers on the rear to even out the rear stance to match the front (which you will have to do with just about any kit). The combo with 33's looked great.

Another happy Rancho customer here, no problems with anything in over two years. The BDS is solid too though, either way you will be happy IMO. I believe your wheels are +18 offset, I ran 33's and the same offset wheel and it looked killer.
