Wait Canada has a government and taxes?!

I thought it was just a bunch of crazy rednecks up there.

Many people who won haven't declared it. They claim the money but don't announce it to everyone on tv.

Lol didn't you hear? We just got our first weekly newspaper too!! Trollololol

It depends on the lottery- Powerball requires your winning be made public, though not all state lotteries are like that. I know I'd sure as hell keep a low profile if possible.

I'd buy a modest house someplace quiet and blow the money in the garage/shop and the armory (like any dream home of mine wouldn't have an armory!). Pretty sure that would have to include some of the exotic stuff. I mean you have to love Lambo for being vulgar enough to call launch control "thrust mode" in the new Aventador. Haha

Oh and trophy wife too.

It's a pretty ridiculous system of taxation. I think the taxes on a lump sum like that comes out to about 32-35%.. so about 14.3 million after taxes. Then theirs inheritance tax.. gift tax.. vehicle tax.. housing taxes.. 6-8% taxes at store fronts.. so if the person spends the 14 million, yea probably 800,000+ goes to taxes just from spending it. I think you see a lot of the people you see go broke after winning the lotto is from buying ridiculous houses and then having insane property taxes.. and blow it.. and then cannot afford the taxes to even keep there lifestyle afloat.

Bottom line.. I'd love to know what the government does with all our Fn money.. because I know my roads around here suck.. all taxes are going up.. err.. just badness.. lol

Don't forget the estate tax. If you die before you spend it all, they tax the same money all over again. All that being said, and with all due respect to our neighbors to the north who probably and justifiably feel the same way, we live in the greatest country on the planet, and I'm willing to pay for that luxury. I'm sure that the taxes are much lower in other places. Places that I don't want to live in.

Lol...you guys have no room to whine about taxes lol. Come up to Canadaland. 42% gets taken off my cheques, then 13% on every purchase I make. 2600 a year land tax on my property... I Wouldn't whine about winning 22 million LOL

If you factor in how many American's pay 450-800+ per month for health care.. I think you have a pretty raw deal. avg income of 2000-2500 for a person.. 800/2500 = 32%. On top of the 33% on avg thats taken out already. So they are working for 35% of their check total after healthcare in SOME instances.

I don't know anyone who pays that much per month on health insurance. Even for family plans.

I pay about $100/month but because I work for a smallish company it costs more. Bigger companies tend to be cheaper. Family insurance might be like $230. If someone is spending $800/month for insurance they're getting shafted. And my overall deduction percentage isn't even 30% not counting 401k contribution so I don't know where those numbers come from. I have lots of customers I've talked at length with in Canada about taxation and such and Canada definitely takes a bigger bite, especially in the eastern provinces but y'all seem to get more shit from it- like your govt is a bit better at spending the tax dollars but then again it's the US that keeps the bad guys overseas in line. This budget crap is complex.

Apparently the new budget is going to raise the tax on cigarettes to $1.95/pack. And raise taxes on middle and upper class (more). And that's still a trillion dollar deficit! Where does it go?!

In british columbia we pay almost 11$ for one pack of smokes and don't get me started on beer and liquor i get excited when I can bring liquor back from the US.

I am sure most agree with the above. BUT it is the billions you read about weekly that the gov't knows is fraud, waste or abuse & they do NOTHING about it. That money is going somewhere & more than likely lining peoples pockets who are either lobbyists or have friends in Washington DC. 7 of the 10 richest counties in the country surround the place. http://www.politifact.com/ohio/statements/2013/jan/14/jim-jordan/jim-jordan-says-seven-nations-10-wealthiest-counti/

The media does not cover him like they should, but research Senator Coburn from OK. Two years ago he identified $10 Billion that was pure duplication & when he brought the info to Harry Reid, it was ignored. He has since found billions more, yet we have a administration pushing class warfare to only TAX more. I NEVER thought the American public would support higher taxes, even if intended for the wealthy, it never stops there.

If you think the US is the greatest country on the planet to LIVE in your wrong. I'm not trying to bash the US but it is not the best country to live in. I'm not even going to say Canada is the best to live in.

I dont even think in the world opinion the US makes top 10 on many different top 10's. I'm not saying the US isn't good to live in, but no way in hell is it the best to live in and that is a fact.

If you think it is the best that would be your opinion at best not a FACT

    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
