Z45 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Have you seen the commercial for GEICO motorcycle insurance where the guy is made of money? Thats what you are to the dealer. It doesn't matter if it's a motorcycle, boat, car or truck dealership, they make the most money on service & repairs and once they got you hooked into coming back for oil changes, your money in the bank for dealer.
Bad Bowtie2 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I change my Mobile 1 oil & AC Delco filter every 6K. I add a $9.00 can of Seafoam brand fuel treatment at this time- Today's fuel is crap. Today's vehicle are very sensitive to any minute changes. In short, it's cheep insurance & it works.
Wolfmanjohn Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Consistent use of good quality gasoline = no real need for any gas additive. Ever. That's why gasolines are "tiered".
Dirtautoguy Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I have used seafoam a few times in my truck, dirtbike, and snowmobile, usually about once a year at the beginning of the season or when I think it would be good for my truck. It seems to work well for me, especially on carbs it seems to do a good job of keeping them cleaned up. But I think alot of it is personnel preference.
tanked_darren Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 This is one of those threads where the 2 camps share opinions. Both sides do what they gonna do, just buy top tier fuel like the manual calls for and skip the snake oil, I mean fuel additive
Daryl LBZ Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I buy Lucas fuel injector cleaner with upper cylinder lubricant every oil change and dump it in the gas tank. I can't tell you if it really does anything, but other Lucas products my dad and I have used seem to work so I figured why not. I would just do whatever you feel like really, but mainly I would definitely make sure to try and buy good fuel.
kstruckcountry Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Most gas isn't very good. I ran a few bottles of Lucas through on my last road trip to try it. It can't hurt anything. I think people who hardly drive their trucks would benefit from a fuel stabilizer, with all the ethanol out there I'd expect separation. Using stabilizer sure helped my boat.
Bad Bowtie2 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I run 100% pure gasoline 85% of the time. There are multiple stations here selling the good "old" stuff. Shell/Chevron stations are very common to my truck(s). I also run Seafoam in my lawn equipment annually- Good stuff.
orviskid Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 thanks, sounds like we have mixed emotions here. i run the lowest gas because it costs the least. CT gas prices are high for the good stuff. my truck gets 17 mpg and at $4.50 a gallon hurts for the good stuff. my other truck had no issues and i put in additives from time to time. i'd love to run the hi test all the time, but i'd have to sell the truck to fill it up.
MikeNH Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Unless the price difference between regular and premium in CT is absurd there isn't much difference in price. If you completely filled a tank (26 gallons) the difference would be less than $8 assuming a 30 cent/gallon difference.
