Looks like everyone was trying to save some money. Why didn't you just buy a truck with the factory installed brake controller? Works much better than the aftermarket units available and problem solved.

As I stated earlier.....truck was a last minute purchase....picked what they had on the lot closest to what my '06 was, that's why it's leased, will buy the right truck in 3 years.....and yes, it will have the integrated brake controller among other options

When I purchased mine I could not find what I wanted at the time. My local dealer would not order the truck with the options I wanted either. Thankfull for google, I found this truck with every option available minus an engine block heater (not needed in VA) and black on black, not my first choice in color but, I saved a lot of money on this truck because it was a new leftover 2010 that I purchased in 2011. Dealer had this truck on their lot for almost a year. Good luck

900-series trucks aren't plug and play. You just get a bundle of wires under the dash to splice into.

If the wires are under the dash - and you just splice into them - then they must be connected to the Fuse Box already. Yes/No?

 

I'm not sure exactly what "plug & play" means to everyone. But wanted to understand why it doesn't seem to exist on Beer Belly's truck.

 

"Plug & Play" to me - means that I plug one end of a supplied wiring harness into the Fuse Box - and run the other end to the after-market brake controller. This means no cutting/splicing into any harness under the dash.

 

So my question is: is Beer Belly's problem the fact that no one makes/offers a custom made wiring harness for an after-market controller - - that would plug into the Fuse Box

 

OR

 

is the problem that there is No Fuse Box to plug into - on his new truck?

 

If the problem is a lack of being able to buy a pre-made wiring harness to plug into the fuse box - then that doesn't mean that the 900 series trucks aren't "plug and play" - only that no one is supplying the needed wireing harness in the after-market. Yes/No?

BTW - I presently have "the right truck" - a 2005 2500HD Crew Cab..

There is nothing to plug into. The junction box that the 800-series trucks had doesn't exist. You can still easily splice into the wires supplied by following the manual and then all that's needed is the 40A fuse and to hook up the two wires under the hood. Yeah it's strange that they don't hook all that up, especially on trucks with the towing pkg but its not exactly difficult.

Also "junction box" is a better term than Fuse Box but I couldn't think of it .... da...

The color codes are non standard if memory serves. Your manual should have a breakout of the harness.
