Underbody rust

Recommended Posts

I got my 99 Silverado washed the other day, with the underbody wash.  I got under it to make sure all the salt was gone and noticed that the steel frame had some rust on it.  I do remember while off roading one time I went over a dirt mound and hit the bottom.  How should I go about taking care of this?  Sanding then putting some rust olium on it?  Help please

I'd wire brush it and clean it up as best as possible.  Then I'd spray it with either a can of the rubberized undercoating or several coats of Rust-Olium or the like.

The frame is coated with a "wax" from the factory.  I don't think you can find anything that will replace it perfectly.

Yea Shanners you got it...you can buy a rubberized undercoating at your GM dealer in a spray can. It works great...it is a clear color though so you will want to spray it with some black underbody paint like Rust o lium. Your GM dealer has this to in a relabeled GM flat black paint. :jester:
