What is this 1?

Before anyone flames me, I looked through entire owners manual and my dealer cant even figure it out as they looked as well.

I traded in my 2012 1500 for a 2012 2500hd that was a left over. zero miles on it!

anyways, in park, drive, or manual, there is always a 1 on the far right (see pics)

as you can see when your in manual there it shows M1 1. So it has nothing to do with that.

any idea on what it is?

Is that the indicator to tell you what gear you're in? Take it out for a drive in manual mode and shift up; it should change to as you upshift. And I think that's a colon between the "M" and the "1". The "1" doesn't show up on my 2010 when it's in "D" mode, so I don't know what's up with that.

The "1" is there if you want to run in 1st gear without a shift and the "M" is there if you need to shift yourself up or down with the thumb rocker button and where the "1" is that will show you what gear your in when shifting manually.

Can you put the shifter 1 position lower than M? Maybe it's just another selection to let you lock it in 1st

It's 1st gear, just takes the transmission control module and solenoids out of the loop by putting the manual shift valve into the 1st gear range.

you can pull it down past m into just first, it will just stay in first gear.

ok guys, I looked over that owners manual, and so did the dealer and they didnt know (not a shocker) but if someone can tell me what page it is on so i can review that would be great?

and txab, the entire point of a forum is for someone that has the knowledge to pass it along to someone who doesnt, i couldnt find it in the book, so thanks for that pointless response.

Yep, just a quick short cut to first gear.

Instead of having 6 5 4 3 2 1 you have D M 1, less clutter and fuss.

I like it.

Damn man I just told you what it is, so I'll do it again in a little more detail, The 1 is there if you want to hold it in first gear and when you put it in manual or the "M" the blank spot in-between the 1 and "M" will show you what gear your in when shifting in manual mode. So in your 2nd post in your picture your truck is in manual mode as seen by the line under both the "M" and the gear your in so take the thumb shifter and toggle up you will see the 1 change to a 2 and so on and when you toggle down it will drop down.
