Is S&W M15 MOE any good?

At the base I am at, the local exchange has a Smith and Wesson AR with Magpul stuff on it for $1080. The fit and finish seemed good, and it felt nice. Anybody have any real world reviews of it? Thanks

S&W seems to be decent for ARs. Though the price seems a tad steep. Some folks are seeing Colt 6920s at Wal Mart for a similar price.

Price might be high due to no tax. But Fort Jackson had or may still have an SCAR-L with all the bells and whistles for a little under 3K. Awesome gun though!

That's to much money for a S&W.....Wait for a better price if that's what you want. You can get a Colt 6920 cheaper than that price. The craze is over and gun dealers need to realize that and put the prices back down where they belong.

I forgot to say it's also has a additional $100, rebate. It's a MP 15 MOE model. So overall it's $980 bucks. I was reading the reviews online and they are all basically saying its a good mid level rifle. Anybody on here actually fire, or own one?

So far here in VA I have not seen any ARs available, the ones I saw were at Myrtle Beach back in FEB. I have not seen any Colts under $1600, not a single Walmart around me carried a AR.

Thanks!

Me! I have had one for about a year.

Out of the box, it was a great shooter.

I've changed the stock and hand rail and I've upgraded the trigger for an AR Gold model.

Finally, it has EOTech/magnifier optics.

It's my go to AR for match and sport shooting.

Its at my duracoater now for a little personailzation.

Mitch thanks for the input. Is the 1000 price close to what you paid for yours? Why did you change out the trigger? Did you not like the pull? The one at the store felt nice, tight and crisp. What did you change your stock and hand rail to? The Magpul stuff seemed pretty nice. I really don't care for too much stuff on my M4, I think I just want to put a good AR scope like the Nikon P223. Again nothing too fancy, just a good reliable black gun, without spending too much. Again thanks.

I have a five or six year old MP-15A1 with a couple thousand rounds through it and it has been great shooter. No issues other than a little Loctite on the rear site.

Wish I could find some ammo to shoot it. :nonod:

I have the optics ready version ... basic gun and furniture.

Magpul stock and Troy hand rail. The Troy hand guard has screws that cinch it to the barrel and doesn't move.

Stock trigger was fine ... just keeping up with the Jones' I guess. A light trigger helps me stay on target while free standing.

IIRC, I paid close to $900. So I think the MOE price is not out of line.

I paid about $150 to do the Magpul MOE hand guard, CTR buttstock, and MIAD pistol grip to my Bushmaster. With CA tax and overnight shipping

Thanks gents! Also the one in the store had no MP15 art on the lower, it did have the S&W seal, and on the reverse it had MAGPUL engraved on it. Thanks for everyone's input.

Okay cool, so a price after rebate of 980, is not bad with all the Magpul stuff. That makes me feel better about the price. The way I look at it is that the MOE model has all the Magpul stuff that I would like to put on a regular AR, but it also comes with a lifetime S&W warranty, and is installed on the rifle from the factory. Now I have to pull the trigger and get it. There is a Bass Pro nearby so I have to check out what they have and what prices they are. Again thanks for all your input.

Not a bad deal at all, I have a S&W MP15 that I have owned for right at 8 years back when S&W first got into the AR arena. Mine has ran flawless and has been down the upgrade road as well.

I only paid $800 for mine, but that was 8 years ago. I just bought a DPMS LR-308 this year, got it for $1080 back in January.
