I feel like the reinforcement would be the hole drilled. There is an obvious spot for the hole to be. But I guess there is really no way of knowing unless we have 2 torn apart side by side.

I think the way they are installed by these guys will work out just fine.

Thanks for the response. I need to add them to my Sierra but GM told me no without the supports. Those pics sure looked like they were solid.

Curiosity got the better of me and I went out and pulled back the plastic for a look see at the inside of my door where the mirror mounts. I have a factory equipped Max tow LTZ with the tow mirrors. I can say the inside looks exactly like Jon's does with no noteable difference on the inside. Without pulling the mirror and comparing 2 trucks side by side it would be hard to tell for sure if there is any difference in layers of metal or extra reinforcement on the outside. FWIW mine are rock solid even over all the freaking potholes we have around here.

I think I am going to add them. The door looked like previous year mounts. I have had them on my last 2 Sierra's.

I want to get these mirrors but I don't want to spend $422 from the dealer. Where is the cheapest I can get the factory towing mirrors?

Anybody heard anything on the rumors that GM was going to make a power-fold version of these tow mirrors?

How does that plastic cover come off to access the mirror bolts? I just took a look and it goes all the way around the window? Don't want to break the plastic.

power fold in option would be damn nice.
not crazy about them in black plastic, but love them painted.
nice mirrors. can see great with them and look nice on the truck
but I really really think they look best painted

I don't know why GM didn't. Ford already have them power Fold and extend out

I got mine from from GMwholesaledirect.com. Just $600.00 and change for the pair including shipping. I found some where the price looked good but shipping was $50 to $75. This was the best deal I found. Also reference an above post, my dealer pulled the back panel and trim off a work truck with mirror package, side by side the door on my truck looked thee same. Here is what my order looked like:
