2500 HD Dmax?s

I am considering purchasing a 2013 2500 HD DMax 4x4, ext cab sle

i am asking this question as it will be my daily driver and I roll alot of miles on

and thinking long term the dmax will be the best bang for the buck longevity wise

most driving will be highway 55 to 70mph. Towing will be a 7000 Lb boat aprox 50 to 60 miles round trip 1-2 times a week

Thoughts on life of 2500HD with Dmax?

Do it! Towing that much weight you won't even feel its back there with the duramax. You will get better unloaded and towing mpg vs a gas plus more HP and torque. It's a win win! Only drawbacks are emissions may require you to take it on highway if you only drive stop and go for many miles.

FYI you may want to weight for 2015 duramax announced at end of this month and prob avail early 2014.

Thank you for info thinking 2013 D Max still a bunch around.

a lot of my driving will be highway, retired from FD and my part time job is quite a drive

I love mine; go for it! You can get into the 20's for mileage if you keep the speed down. It's got more than enough power for what you're towing.

My main thought was Longevity with the miles I am rolling on right now, The towing is an added bonus

I travel 90 mies each way to a part time job, twice a week yes it is a good job

I did not want to add a 2nd vehicle maintenance and Insurance will end up being more then the Durimax

extra cost of operation. And purchase price for 2nd vehicle will go towards new 2500. I have had prices quoted at 49,000 for an extended cab 4x4 Durimax that is after some rebates truck is almost Identical to my 1500 waiting for info on back up camera LOL have one in my 1500 and it is a nice option. I have put 12,000 miles on my 1500 in 5 months, That is with not running to the pt time job which will add 360 miles a week

Yes Sir, go for it, you'll be happy driving Dmax

Don't hold out for the new one, the LML is proven platform. Who knows what new emissions BS gm will have in store for us in the new ones...

You won't even know 7k is behind you!! You'll love the raw torque and how amazing the new allison is at puttin it to the ground.

And if you wanted you could have daily driver/tow rig/race truck all in one reliable package!!!

I agree go for it and don't look back. Had mine for 20 months and it is a hair over 36,000 miles and I have 1300 before I get home!!! The only suggestion I have is to add a true DEF tank skid plate. I do not like the look of the new "plastic" one that GM puts on the truck (my 11 did not have anything even thou it is a Z71 with skid plates every where else) I installed one from Or-Fab and then used it to jack the truck up without any problems. :jester:

I'd say go for it if you plan on putting a lot of miles on and towing frequently. However, don't believe the 20 mpg thing, it will never happen in stock form. These newer emmision duramax's are good for 15-18ish. I guess if you drove 100% highway at 55-60 mph then 20 mpg is possible, but that is not real world. My stock LMM is usually around 13.5-14.5 average. I have seen 17 or so on all highway driving at 70ish. That said, you'll still see a 10-15% increase in mileage over the standard 6.0L gas engine. Depending upon fuel costs in you're area will determine the economics. The main thing is that a high mileage duramax will bring way more money than a comperable gas engine when it's time to trade/sell. It's pretty hard to find a later model duramax 4x4 under $20K anywhere if it's in decent shape. Yes and I do realize there is an almost $9K jump in the price from gas. Using a HD pickup as a daily driver isn't that desirable to me, but I live on a farm and kind of need it. They ride pretty rough, although the LML seems to ride better than my LMM. As others have mentioned you might check out what is in store for 2014. They will be buliding the new 2015 HD sometime early 2014 and I'm assuming they will be very similar to the new 1500's which I really like the looks of. That said, there could be some huge rebates on leftover 13/14's Classics by then too.

I agree with the Dmax, especially if you put on alot of miles. Our last 2 work trucks were both about 10 years old when we got rid of them. They each had over 250,000 miles on them and all we did was be vigilant about maintenance. The tranny and engine were still strong. We changed all fluids when required and made sure to change the oil at around 6000 miles.

I did not know the newer DMaxs only got around 15-18. What are they getting loaded/towing?

drove a couple today wow i am hooked ride was pretty good and quiet! I am sold the only thing now is finding the truck with options I want yes the D max ends up being almost 15,000 more before the rebates then my 1500 but I spend a bunch of time on the road.
