Thanks Mpulse for the reply. Any word on when it will?

It won't unless you get it from gm-navigation.com.

Dang that stinks. Those guys offer a great product as well but I can't justify spending over $1200 on the factory head unit. Just an incredible waste of money.

I think they have some deals that are way less than that now I believe.

I ordered an upgrade from Kodiakz and it arrived 3 days later. Super easy install, took me about 20 minutes total. I did not, however, want to add a separate GPS antenna. So I ordered a GPS splitter from Greg at CPS Audio Video. That made the install even easier and while it wasn't what I would call cheap for a small piece of equipment it was worth it. Navigation worked right out of the box as did weather and sending navigation through Onstar. I was ready to have to deal with both but I'm grateful I didn't have to.

Where the heck did you find the on-star module? I have my glove box off and cant find the darn thing. I previously installed my kit months ago and I have the new splitter to install.

Look at the video I posted on the last page, you can see him show you the onstar module at 5:20 into it. It was a little harder to remove the onstar cable than the others but not too bad.

Nope definitely not in that location on 14 silverado. Looking into radio stack it appears it may be in there...uggggh

So....why are you guys changing it out to a splitter to share the shark fin?

I've had my Kodiakz install since last spring with the under cowl dedicated antenna and have never had a problem with the GPS connection.

Am I missing something here? Is there some advantage that is worth the time, trouble, and expense? Please explain....

TIA,

Mike

BTW, I've had my '14 Sierra oil changed at the dealer 3 times, as well as a couple of recall fixes, and their only comment was astonishment that they weren't doing it as a dealer installed service.... No problem with the warranty and they won't flash it without permission (in which case I'll probably install the original HMI for the process :) .

Although I have had no real issues either I like the idea of it being incorporated in a shared antenna on top external. I have had some reception issue while towing my RV in more remote or wooded areas. Curious to see if it helps any.

If anyone is interested the on-star module is behind the touchscreen at least on a 14 Silverado. Really not hard to get to at all. I ordered the splitter and 2 cables from dealer for $55.00. The KodiakZ kit is now in integrated with OEM antenna and works fine.

Hello SJ

Both my Onstar module and HMI is behind the touchscreen on my 2015 Colorado. I briefly tried to pop off the screen bezel and quit before I broke it. I was using trim removal tools from harbor freight. I think the Silverado has a similat bezel to mine. Can you share any tips to removing it? Otherwise, I was planning to visit my dealership and ask them to remove it for me...hopefully they will do so without too much hastle as to why.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

AJ

Yes it's nerve racking on a new vehicle removing trim. On mine the trim bezel goes around the radio and screen and is held there by 8 or so clips. Just work the tool under a corner first. Once you get one or two clips you can grab and pull gently working your way around. Don't try and remove it all at once. Slow and steady and it's really more durable then you think. Try and make sure it's warm to prevent plastic snapping. Once off the screen should be held on by 4 bolts and two clips. Good luck

Well I got it done in my Colorado...thanks for the tips...it really helped. Unfortunately I did break several bezel clips that decided to come off and remain in the dash. Thought it was no big deal to order a couple of clips but my Chevy parts guy said the clips are part of the bezel so I had to order an entire new bezel...$60 wasn't too bad though. Kodiakz system is working great...I am really pleased now having navigation. The voice control is functional but providing addresses is a challenge for either me or the computer recognition to understand. I too instantly had XM weather and Onstar downloading.
