Just tried to PM kodiakz... Cannot receive any messages, full inbox. Is he still shipping these units?

 

He is probably trying to enjoy the holiday, will catch up with PMs later.

 

Was still selling them as of last week.

yea he was still selling and shipping them as of last week ... I received mine this past Tuesday ( 20153006 )... and with it being the weekend and holiday i would say give it a few for him to catch up once he's back ....

Hi all,

 

I just picked up a 2015 LTZ. My dealer is adding the navigation kit as I type this. I cant comment on how well it works out cause it isn't done yet.

Mine is the first one they have done and the tech is having issues with the software update.

 

The kit advertised in Chevrolet's accessory catalog is the parts only. i.e. new HMI module and antenna harness, using the sharkfin. It does not come preprogrammed though, so it is not plug and play.

 

And... for the record, this is specific to the 2015, it will not work in a 2014.

 

After installation it would need a trip to your local dealer to download and install the nav software.

 

Advantages:

Its dealer installed, covered by factory warranty and all software updates are valid. (No chance of erasing the nav software)

Chevrolet recognizes the installation so there are no issues with the VIN not showing a nav install as it is updated during the install procedure.

 

 

Disadvantages:

while the kit is $675.00 on the web, you will have to pay for programming. (unless you know someone) it could easily cost more than the price quoted here.

 

I'll update after I get it back.

My dealer wasn't able to program the i06 module. They kept my truck for two days and had a case opened with tech support. According to the service writer, They tried three different times to reconfigure, and each time the nav icon would not appear. They wound up telling me the i06 module was incompatible with my truck. :nono:

 

Ironically, the dealer finally hired a vendor who installed a programmed i06 module which worked. I don't know where he (the vendor) got it, he only told me he orders them form an internet supplier. Sounds like MVI or Kodiaks stuff.

 

Anyway, they told me they had not installed one before, so, maybe in the future GM will make the programming secret available to the dealers.

He said GM is starting to change the 16's NAV and smartphone features, but couldn't elaborate any more than that smiling. He did suggest (quietly) that MVI and others have been used to add the feature on after production vehicles.

 

So after some investigating and testing my family's other new trucks with the GM NAV, I opted to using the smartphone HDMI integration mirroring. Just finished the instal yesterday, very impressed with the results as there is no limit to what you can do or view with android.

Are you planning on still doing a review of the installation and features? I tried the factory navigation on my friend's Tahoe and wasn't impressed with it. I would rather be able to use my iPhone. Can you still listen to music while mirroring your phone GPS?

Yes, Still planning too. I have most of the photos edited, maybe when I'm back home this week end, I will finish testing.

 

One thing though to remember, the mirror to GM system is only just that, all the features and capabilities are reliant on the devices system I have to Bluetooth, Tether, A/V thru HDMI, GPS NAV,Streaming, Browsing, etc, each or all at the same time:) As android is a most capable flexible system, some of the options may not be available in versions or at all with iPhone.

 

MVI is able to assemble almost anything to match your type of device.
