...I promise you, and would bet my truck on it, if I want all the time V8 Chevrolet would be happy to make that happen for me free of charge. I am that kind of an ****.

I would like to see that.

Especially when the truck is still under warranty.

I have a question for you all. I am new to Chevy. This is my first ever chevy but I can be an **** given the right motivation.

My question is this. If you guys really do want 100% of the time V8 driving, why are you paying for and or modifying the V8 truck you bought?

I JUST got mine this week so I have no impression of the AFM system yet to be concerned enough. IF and only if I decide that I want my V8 to run as a V8 I will be running to my stealers service department and demanding that my V8 be made to run as a V8.

I bought a V8 truck and expect a V8 performance. I promise you, and would bet my truck on it, if I want all the time V8 Chevrolet would be happy to make that happen for me free of charge. I am that kind of an ****.

Have any of you even tried to ask Chevrolet to fix the problem for you? If it is not a leased truck, then you should have NO problem getting them to accommodate your wishes.

Yeah I don't see Chevy doing that for you ever. Maybe if you sign a legal document that says you take full responsibility of vehicle repairs and all warranties are null and void, but I don't see that happening either. As long as the truck is running as designed, Chevy won't touch a thing. You would need an aftermarket tune.

What damage would or could occur when a V8 runs on all 8 cylinders? How could running a truck like a truck that it was designed and built todo hurt anything or chance ruining the warranty?

Yes aftermarket tunes and that chip some people plug into the ob2 port could potentially cause problems because it is not part of the original engineering of the machine.

If I buy a V8 and it is only running on 4 of them that is NOT what a V8 is supposed to do nor is it what I bought it to do

If it is still under warranty and they fixed it so it full time runs on all 8 then it would still be under warranty AS long as Chevrolet service department did it.

.

I cannot say I would win BUT I have won many a battle. Ever return a truck after taking delivery and have the dealer accept it back AND reverse the paperwork? I am in that process right now ;). Use your words as weapons and amazing things CAN happen.

After I take delivery of my second truck this week and I throw some miles on it I will decide if I want to fight this fight or not. I probably won't since I drive less then 3k per year on my trucks.

If I do I will let you guys know when I succeed. Notice I did not say IF. ;)

Nope not bad ass just persistent. I deserve and demand respect as a consumer and as a serviceman.

When money is coming out of my pocket it is under my terms and my terms only. I do not compromise. I worked way to hard for my dollars and I will not settle. That is the attitude I take in any business transaction. I will pay for what I want BUT I will not pay for what I do not.

Wrong!! Are you serious? GM will never authorize V4 mode or AFM to be disabled. AFM allows them to report higher gas mileage to the government as well as putting higher numbers on the window sticker.

And guess what that means? Higher sales and more money, it's all about the Benjamin's.

Oh, by the way I have the range V8 device purchased in April and haven't had any issues with it. It stays plugged in most of the time and gets removed before I take the truck in for a service. Seems to be working as advertised.

They can report all they want.

I would simply use that range device as well if it didnt cost money. It is all about the Benjamins. I am not paying for a device to hack something that I bought because it is not working as I bought it to work.

If the range were free, I would easily go that route. I would never expect that company to just give me something they worked so hard for, so... I won't be buying it.

Again, back to what I said. If I decide that I do not like the AFM I promise you all that I WILL get the service department to do it for free.

I got VW service to turn off my DRL using the VagCom software. They told me it cannot be done. Funny thing, they did it. :)

We are talking about GM, you will never find a GM authorized service dept that will do it (especially while it's under warranty) without GM authorization, and I assure you that GM would never authorize it, not a chance in hell. If it was that easy to get GM to budge on this issue then everyone would do it.

Too bad they didn't put a switch in the truck to cycle AFM either on or off based on the drivers preference.

Apparently you had no idea about GMs AFM prior to purchase.

I do wish there was a switch. Bet as a helicopter electrician I could make that happen, if I wanted to ;). I'd have to find the correct manuals as to how it works so that I could engineer something. It is likely more trouble then worth though. I bet it is ALL software driven.

No I did not know about AFM. Driving the test victim, I liked it. I do not know if I will still like it when I begin the usage of the truck. I thought it was a perk though when I found out about it. I do not know if it will be disappointing yet. I am still waiting to take delivery of the truck I will keep. The one I am returning is still in the driveway. I'm not touching that one.

I knew nothing about it because I had a 2002 Dakota V6 that I traded for this. And my 4 banger TDI does other crazy shit on its own.

I have a question for you all. If you put it in tow mode does that keep it in V8? Or what about putting it in 4 High?

The engine was DESIGNED AND BUILT to switch from 8 cylinders to 4 cylinders when all 8 are not needed. You are asking GM to change THEIR design to suit you. They aren't going to do that.

Also you don't want to drive around in 4 HI that will destroy your drivetrain. Only use 4wheel drive when necessary on loose surfaces like dirt, snow, sand, mud, etc.

You can put the truck in M5 and it will stay in V8 all the time. Then you can hit the plus button to change it to M6 when you get to the interstate but that will allow the AFM to work again.

Like I have said before I am new to this. This is my first 4 wheel and my first V8 as well as my first Chevy. I've had and driven many trucks and have more miles under my belt towing stuff in trucks then not towing. So I got lots of experience, the Chevy, v8 and 4x4 is just the new stuff for me.

yea but saying that keeping the truck in V8 mode all the time is gonna hurt something is just dumb...its a V8. It'll run at V8 mode all day for its entire life no problem if it wanted to.

GM Should have allowed us to switch it on and off. Just like int he new Vettes, drivers can control when AFM is on or off. Im pretty sure the Chrysler version of AFM on the 300C has a selectable mode as well.

*edit* the 6.4-Liter V8 HEMI® Eng w / Fuel Saver Technology uses cylinder deactivation technology when the vehicle is in "Fuel Saver Mode" otherwise it is turned off. Also the Ram can turn the Eco Mode on and off.

Anyone have a range module they are looking to sell?

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
