Drove and Ford and a chev the Ford won

Went to the dealer today and drove a new LTZ with 5.3 and 3.42's then went

across the street and drove a Lariat with the 5.0.

Here are my observations.

 

The chevy interior is nicer======chevy

The chevy ride is nicer========chevy

The fuel economy ===========chevy

 

The engine power goes hands down to the Ford====Ford

The truck sounded way better also===============Ford

I was told the ford 6.2 does not require premium fuel??=Ford

The transmission is better====================Ford

The ability to configure it how I want it ==========Ford chevy makes you take many things you dont want

The price ===============================Ford

Crew cab truck made in USA=================Ford

 

Not sure if I can actually buy a ford I have always had chevy's but

it sure was good to compare the 2.

The Fx4 fords with full paint look awesome. I also like the platinums. Too bad new body comes out next year

Nothing in the world against the Fords-I'm out numbered at my hunting club probably 3:1. Just liked the look and feel of the Chevy a tad more.

Drove the chevy about 20 miles and the Ford maybe 12-15. I reset the trips on them so i could see the mpg.

Certainly not a great study of mpg but a good indicator.

The chevy was about 20 and the Ford 16 mpg so not even close on that one. I will probably end up with a chevy

But the Ford was way better than I expected

I rally don't think the 5.0 is stronger than the 5.3 in the Chevy, I do think they have shorter gearing than the 3.42 so that may contribute to the difference in power feel

The ford had 3:55 and the chev 3:42 so not much difference there.

 

 

Lets not turn this into a debate on how to calculate mpg for the love of god.

I only drove them a little and used the computer in both of them a reference to compare them! This was usable

information to me, to help me decide.

I was dead set on a new '14 Sierra SLT all terrain to replace my '08 Silverado LTZ until I decided to shop around and test the competition. Drove one and loved it compared to my '08. Better power, better fuel economy, great ride and interior.

 

Then I drove a new Ram with the Hemi and 8 speed auto. Game over. Amazing power, and only 1mpg less than the Silverado / Sierra thanks to the 8 speed gearing, despite having significantly more power. Also a nicer interior IMO and with the sport package it's my second favorite looking truck next to the Sierra all terrain. At the end of the day my local GM dealers couldn't come within $5k of a similarly equipped Ram Sport 4x4 so it won on price point. That said, if pricers were more similar I probably would have ended up with the Sierra.

 

I've never owned a Ram and my Silverado's have always held up well so we'll see how she does in the long run! One month of ownership and 3k miles and she's been flawless so far.

I mean the ford v8 is right about equal to the gm 5.3 power wise but the rear gears may make it feel a little quicker.

 

Keep in mind similar to the turbo ecoboost these new GM DI motors, particularly the V8, will respond very well to basic tuning.

 

Dodge is a POS and always will be. Look nice tho. They love having the most powerful engines that never seem to perform the same on pavement as they do on paper- case in point- charger vs. G8, challenger vs. Camaro or mustang

I live in Alberta...... money country compared to the rest of Canada and most of the United States....... I work and now live in the vicintity an oilfield town with probably some of the highest per capita income in the province...... and you know what. The local GM dealer has a pile of 2014's on the lot and I have seen maybe 3 different ones in the area driving around. Sure the local oil companies will start using them for company trucks soon enough but otherwise....... nada. Piles of brand new Rams and F150's though. GM should wake up someday...... or just go bankrupt and stay that way.

I don't think one could go wrong either way. I have owned more Ford vehicles than GM, I think. I had 3 Ford Crew Cabs, (2 2003 models and one cc Lariat 2006 model) 1 Explorer Sport trac, and a 2008 Eddie bauer Expedition.

Liked them all.

Have also owned a 1991 Extended cab Silverado, 2005 3/4 ton EC Silverado (peice of crap),and a 2009 EC Texas Edition Silverado LT(I loved this pickup). as well as a 2004 Tahoa.

 

Have owned quite a few other vehicles as well but just touching on pickups and SUV's.

 

But now we have a 2013 Hot Wheels Camaro and my new 2014 Sierra SLT. Camaro is my wifes car. She loves it, so do it ;)

 

You could say I am more of a Ford guy than Chevy. I never test drove a new ford as I don't like our local ford dealership and I really wanted to buy local. I like ford products and the local dealership was always good to me but last 5 or 6 years the sales departement went down hill.

 

I was never too worried about gas mileage per say, more interesed in what caught my eye. And the new GM pickups did just that though h have a buddy that got a 2013 F150 4x4 lariat and it was very nice. Had all bells and whistles.

But it had the basic look to my Expedition. I wanted change. Hence why I didn't buy a 2013 GM pickup as it would be almost like my 2009 even though there were great rebates going on.

 

Its all in what you want. I got a grat trade in on my 2009 from the local Chevy dealer that I knw now one could toauch as I had already looked around, as well as gone to the dealership I purchased my camaro from. And they Own the ford dealership as well so knew they couldnt touch the trade. And we are talking like 3 grand difference and they were giving me a very fair trade offer.

But it all came down to what I wanted and what I liked. The fords just look kind of the same in and out as my 06 and the Expediton interior. I really like my 2014 and glad I got it. Getting better gas mileage than the 09 so a big plus. Around 19 avg vs 16 for the 09. Plus more room and lots of neat features and having the dealerships about 2 miles from me as well as have worked with the salesman many years ago so knew him. They also did a good deal with us for my daughters car.

 

I am not going out to race any one so really don't care if the F150 ws a bit faster or slower. Each vehicle has its own pro's and con's. I know the Rams look nice but never owned a dodge except for a Stealth (and that was made in Japan) so can't say anything about them. Test drove one but didn't do it for me.

 

Get what you like. You will be the one making payments on it. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

 

I will say this. I hit a dear in my 2014 3 weeks ago and my body shop guy told me it was a night mare to fix. Did get the pickup back though but am wating on 2 front sensors and fog lamp bulb.

Notamember I work just outside fort mcmurray at syncrude, there must be atleast 10-15 of them parked at the camp I'm at.

 

I think one of the other main issues is the price, not many people are going to be able to afford a $60000 truck and if they could most wouldn't buy a truck.

Not in or near Fort Crack. If people want to waste 60000 on a pickup most in this province want a diesel.....
